SORE is a Jakarta-based indie band whose musical eclecticism makes difficult a simple comparison. Imagine the Beatles grew up in the Pacific, listening to the music of Steely Dan, Morrissey, Interpol, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Their music is a curious blend of traditional pop song-writings and mood explorations, ranging from the calmest whisper to the Wagnerian exuberance of the horn sections and fuzz guitars. The band is made up of brilliant and exceptional left-handed guitar and bass players (two guitars and a bass), a keyboardist, a sampler, and a volatile drummer; each of them also contributes as a lead vocalist (yes, they are all singing!). SORE’s first album received praise from all quarters. The Time Magazine Asia acknowledged “CENTRALISMO” as "One of Five Asian Albums Worth Buying", and it was ranked number 40 in "150 Greatest Indonesian Albums of All Time" in the Rolling Stone Indonesia. Now hey’re back with their second album entitled “PORTS OF LIMA” (2008) to great critical acclaim. It was recently voted “Best Album of 2008” (number one) by the Rolling Stone Indonesia in December 2008and selected as the “Best Alternative Music Production” by AMI Awards in April 2009.
