Guera y Prieta. Melinda & Irene, the Alonzo sisters. Filbert St. Oakland, CA 1936 My grandmother is on the right (Irene). Her memory of this photo: We bought our clothes at the Segunda but my sister, the baby, la guera always got the better clothes and shoes. The dress I’m wearing in this picture was ripped at the bottom and I was so mad they gave my sister the prettier dress. My Tio was there and paid me a dollar to smile so they could take this picture. We were sitting on top of a sewing machine. After the picture everyone started drinking and my Tio asked for his dollar back.
