Conan and Ai’s conversation, 1st page: “So? You really don’t know him? This Superintendent Kuroda...” “Yeah...” “...but weren’t you holding onto me tightly?” “I say... He was approaching me with that fierce expression, how could I be calm?” “Oh, is that so... (thinking: His face was already fierce to begin with...)”
Ai says that if Kuroda really is Rum, after seeing her face from so close and realising that she is Sherry, he should have broken into Agasa’s house by now, but Agasa has only texted her about tonight’s dinner...
...then she sees the tabloid article about Yoko/Higo (with a photo of them shopping together) and is stunned (the DB are speculating about how their kid will probably be an attractive soccer player, lol)
meanwhile, Ran is encouraging a depressed Kogoro to investigate the matter first before jumping to conclusions (he objects that he can’t investigate purely based on his own interest) when Ai walks in and hires him to investigate the couple (pro bono, of course)
Kogoro finds a blogpost about Yoko and Higo being spotted in a restaurant, Conan says that Asuka (Higo’s senior from high school soccer team) started a restaurant after leaving J-league
at the restaurant, they see Yoko and Higo being served by a sommelier (who says that the owner is out buying wine and should be back soon) and a waitress who accidentally knocks over Yoko’s wineglass (later revealed to be the owner’s woman when confronted by a waiter aka her ex-boyfriend)
the sommelier, waitress and waiter split up to look for the owner in the back room (where he usually takes naps) and the storeroom when he doesn’t return
When Asuka still doesn’t return, they search for him again, but this time he appears to be sleeping in the back room, entirely covered by a blanket
10 minutes later, when the sommelier goes to wake Asuka, the waiter receives a text from Asuka to bring Higo and Yoko to the storeroom without attracting attention
Kogoro is about to go smoke in the restroom (Ai points out that it usually isn’t allowed, but he says he smelled smoke when he was there earlier) when they hear Yoko scream, and run to the storeroom... only to find (unsurprisingly) Yoko and Higo with Asuka’s dead body.
