#5 - the drama over an email

Some background - most of our fixes have a deadline, ranging from 4 hours to no deadline. If you accidently delete a lot of folders, we don’t have a deadline for when we can restore them. Enter irate user of today…

User: What do you mean, there’s no deadline? Can’t you set me as a high priority?

Me: Unless the bank is losing hundreds of thousands of pounds due to you not having those files, we can’t do that. I can send a chase email for you though, advising the resolving team it’s urgent.

User: How do I know you’re doing to send that email?

Me: Have you considered it’s my job?

User: Fine then, I’ll be calling back in 2 hours to check if you have sent that email of yours.

Now users like this annoy me. I have no control now your issue is with another team. I understand it’s an inconvenience it couldn’t be fixed sooner but the world does not revolve around you. And fyi, I did send your email and got no reply, most likely because it got put straight into “deleted items” because they don’t have time for whinging people like you.
