NATG Day 24: Draw an exhausted pony

Star knows that if they just sit there, there's no way Twirly will survive the night. So, she does what she has to do; carefully trot the both of them back to camp and hope Twirly holds on! Really, they're probably both exhausted by now. It's way past their bedtime! :V

NATG Day 4 (Makeup): Draw an emotional pony

Welp they’re not dead yet. Or at least one of them. MUHAHAHAHA :V (They’re fiiiiiiiiiiine, no one believes me though)

I’ve decided I’m going to keep this little story going with prompts, and likely past the NATG. It’s not a complex story, but I’m learning the basics of actually telling a story with pictures which was the goal I’d set for myself this year.

So it’s another year, another Newbie Artist Training Grounds! I missed the first few prompts, and likely I’ll miss a few more, but I’ll try to do a few!

Yesterday’s was Draw a Pony in Mortal Peril or Draw a Pony Steeling themself. I chose the former because MUHAHAHAHAHA~

Yesterday’s NATG Prompt: Draw a pony mingling/Draw a pony blending in.

We flash forward a little bit from the Day 6 prompt where we last left the filly guides. Through some quick thinking, they were able to escape the hydra in the tall grass of the swamp! But for how long? The blue filly will protect her best friend to the end, but she knows if the hydra spots them now there’s no way she’ll be able to move the both of them in time. And the longer she waits, the more she worries about her friend... She really needs to dress her injuries, but she can’t risk making too much noise now... And how? She barely passed first aid and this looks really bad!

Oops, forgot to upload the left one last night. I’m in that mood again; make random filly guides all over the place while experimenting with faces.

I gotta learn to make appealing color schemes one of these days. If I drew the filly again, I’d take that yellow more into yellow territory. The other I’m mildly satisfied with? I wanted a lemon-lime-mango-fruit horse so I was trying to stay in the orange/yellow/lime green realm.

FILLY GUIDES.

Sorry for the silence the past week or two. I got a bit distracted with something completely different as you can see.

Back in October, I wanted to go back to basics for a little bit, so I was studying pony proportions. I decided to watch a few episodes of season 6, and one of them happened to be the one with the Filly Guides CMC. I thought that one filly from seasons ago in the same uniform was hecka cute so I went OKAAAY SURE, so I drew an OC in the uniform. Then another. Then another. YOU CAN SEE THIS GOT A BIT OUT OF CONTROL. The uniform is really fun to draw ok? Ok. :p

So I took it a step further and made a uniform of sorts for older Fillies, in a similar way that the Scouts/Guides associations have levels for different ages. I imagined they were at least mane6 in age and handle troops of Filly Guides. It didn’t make too much sense to me to have a lot of different levels like the Scouts/Guides have though so I kept it to Red = foals, Blue = teens/adults. Only real difference is the blouse and I experimented a little with a skirt on the last one. There’s one inconsistent animation thing that really bugged me though. On the show, the hat ribbon likes to switch sides a lot, but it is always drawn on the left ear and sometimes not drawn on the right. So I erred on it being on the left ear. I didn’t experiment with it on both sides, so maybe I’ll fool with it some.

I also designed a few badge vectors; might make a few more as it’s kinda fun. The Filly Guide hat emblem, and the leaf/campfire/tree badges are all from http://thatguy1945.deviantart.com/art/Ginger-Snap-350923093 - All I did was make the badges circular for consistency.

I was really trying for a variety of body types and ages - from pudgy to thin, nerdy to preppy. And it was a great opportunity to mess with color selections. I really struggle to find colors that look good together. There are actually a few more drawings, but they were either redesigned and here or didn’t pass this cut. I was pumping out one OC per day for a while there so there was a lot of work put into this. Though, I think a few of them look a touch too similar and may change. (Pink manes were a thing for a bit there)

A few of them have names and talents decided and I’m not too sure what I’ll do with these gals, but I have some ideas. Wouldn’t be surprised if I drew some of them some more, or if a few more crept out of my brain. Feel free to let me know what you think! Feedback and critique is always appreciated!
