**ALCOHOL, ADDICTION TW
prior to moving to deadmore, fin was living in new york with his parents. he had been here once before, but when he was younger and only for a week.
fin had always been deemed as “trouble” since a young age. his grades had never been great, he rejected the preppy aesthetics of the community, and then eventually, as he got older, he drank.
alcohol became an escape. when he was buzzed, the judgmental stares and critical comments disappeared. he could just be.
but it became a crutch and he became too quick to reach for a bottle.
he’d had his problems in the past: detention, then suspension, but wrecking his father’s car had been the tipping point. his parents, who already struggled with their “problem child” had had enough.
“i just can’t do this anymore.” that’s what his mother said to him when she dropped him off at the airport, shipped off to live with his uncle. fin wouldn’t help but notice the lack of “i love you.”
when he landed in deadmore, fin left his parents behind. if and when anyone asked, he didn’t have parents. they were dead. which... in a sense they were.
now, in terms of family, all he has is his uncle atticus. they aren’t close by any means, and there are times when his uncle even gives him the creeps, but he’s all fin’s got.
part of the deal in moving down there was to help out his uncle while he finishes up college at the local community college. a few failed classes had kept him from graduating, so he still has another year to go.
fin works through his problems and thoughts by writing. nothing that he has ever shared. it’s mostly scribbles on loose paper or even napkins. whatever happens to be convenient at the time. they collect in two places: his backpack or his dresser drawer.
i can’t think of anything else atm bc i suck
also connection wise i’m open! please tell me what you’re thinking.
a few ideas: fellow college student, drinking buddy, fling/ex-fling, neighbor, “friend” from when he visited as a kid (probably didn’t stay in touch)
