Another thing: In the past week, I started and then finished/caught up with a fic called On Broken Wings by Raisedbymoogles on AO3.

It’s a post-Advent Children Sephiroth-centric fic which tackles the questions of ‘what if what Sephiroth’s insanity was more Jenova’s doing than his own? What if while in the Lifestream, Aerith could untangle the Jenova from Sephiroth, leaving him entirely himself and sane again? What if he was returned to life more human, and able to understand that he did horrific things? What would happen, how would people react to this, and how would he react to this?’

I loved it so much, it had everyone in character and also both realistic depictions of everyone’s ‘I am not okay’-ness, as well as a lot of humour that worked with the flow of the characters and the story.

But because of that, I finally started watching a playthrough of Crisis Core! Which, is good. Okay, the graphics are way better than the literal polygons I saw when watching FF7 a few years ago, which really took a lot of the seriousness away from certain scenes, but still aren’t perfect because you should SEE the way Zack talks on the phone. It’s just. Mouth moving. No expression. Like a, a puppet of some kind. (I should say sorry for that, given what happened to Cloud, but. No.)

Prior to watching this, the only info on pre-FF7 main game stuff was what I’d read on the wiki, which doesn’t stick in the mind and doesn’t give as much detailed information into who the characters are, and who they are to each other... not to mention, I’d never really seen Sephiroth as ‘not batshit crazy’ anywhere other than gifs, offhanded references, and that one moment in the main game flashback to Nibelheim.

So, it’s going to be fun, I’ve already had a couple of absolute laugh-out-loud moments, and I’m sure it’s going to leave me a sobbing mess on the ground since I love Zack already, I love Cloud, I love Aerith, and I love pre-Nibelheim Sephiroth, someone save this man and give him a shock blanket. Wish me luck!
