Final Project — Due: Part 1, 4/17; Part 2, 4/24; Part 3, 5/01; Part 4, 5/01 Product-Service Ecology — Wellness
I used a unity + variation formula to create my abstract image. Unity was achieved first by the curved, vertical lines. I created variation first by flipping the curved lines on the right side of the image so they’d be curving in the opposite direction. Then, I added more variation by having varied thicknesses to the black and white lines. Next, I added a large oval toward the right-side of the image to create a focal point. I added smaller ovals in a few different places in the image as well, so the focal point felt unified in the image.
Unit 1 Reflection
Now having gone through this unit, I can say that I actually do look at the environment differently now; I mean I was already attracted to certain things when I take pictures, but now I can acknowledge why. I was generally frustrated with the final project in that I was more focused conceptually rather than formally. Regardless of that, I think I succeeded in the project, but then again, I’m just tired of looking at it. I would like to work on my personal work dynamic for the next unit because I have terrible time-management skills on top of been busy anyways.
Artist Statement
My goal for the project was to convey the differences between Philly with my hometown, Marlton in a formal way. I originally created a physical collage, then scanned it in and and altered it the way I needed to in order to make the compositions stronger. I put the things regarding Philly right side up and vice versa for Marlton. I focused on line, color/contrast, shape, pos/neg space, and movement. For form, I created a positive and negative space with the composited images to achieve my goal. Most of my inspiration comes from minimalist collages.
