Heres a picture of my final dress just before my actress went on stage for her dress rehearsal. I was happy with the final outcome of my costume - however after the dress rehearsal it became clear that some parts of my costume needed alteration. The most obvious alteration was in the armbands, I didn’t realise how much my character moved and danced on stage, and subsequently the poppers on the armband repeatedly popped open. To combat this I re-made the armbands, using velcro instead of poppers, meaning my actress could tighten them more. In addition, my hem was not finished to the highest quality, so I re stitched it on the ‘babylock.’
Final Costume Photos
Final Garments
Here is the final images of the bodice Gemma and I created.
Below is an image of the entire ball gown to show how we have made the bodice match the skirt. However, the skirt was made entirely by Gemma and the bodice was what we created together. You can see how we have tried to tie in the design features, for example the scallops on the sleeves and the scallops on the hem of the skirt and the roses on the bodice with the roses on the underskirt.
Below is an image of my final 18th Century Decorative skirt
I think the decoration has worked well. If i had more time and more fabric, I would really like to add a central panel in order to make it even more decorative
weekly reflection
this last week of this project has been extremely full on and at times manic, however I have loved seeing all the tutus come together and am so proud of my complete costume. I have worked harder than I ever have before to finish this in time and have also learnt so many skills that I believe have made me a better maker.
I have learnt how time consuming everything is and how much hand sewing is involved in making tutus. planning my time has been essential and setting myself goals daily meant I kept on top of my work.
throughout this process I have learnt that I prefer the decoration and finishing off of garments rather than the construction, which is something I definitely want to focus on more in third year.
Finished Ballgown
Here is my finished skirt, and finished shared Bodice. Overall I am pleased with the look of the costume, and feel i have learnt a lot during this process. There are improvements that could be made especially on the skirt but I feel i have learnt new techniques, and feel a lot more confident in my abilities after completing this project.
Finished Bodice
Here is mine and Jemma's finished 19th Century Bodice. I am very pleased with the finished look and i am proud of the outcome. Jemma and I made a great team, and i am glad I had the chance to work with someone to improve my teamwork skills.
