a drabble gift for @swankyorange 🤍 tags: fluff, cats, jay being jay prompt: Mia and Jay celebrating his birthday, reminiscing on their year

“That is the drunkest I have ever seen you,” Mia says, stabbing the slice of cake with a little fork, exactly one year after the first of his birthdays they spent together, with his leftover cake between them, stuffed as they both are from dinner with their friends. “I’m surprised you got it up.” 

He still cringes when he thinks about it, though he gets a little flustered too, just enough to flare bright pink across his nose and cheeks when he remembers their first kiss, Mia running up the stairs, his pants still on, and his best friend in the world whimpering for him the way he had fantasized about so many times before that night. Crashing into the doorframe, falling asleep with his fly open, hearing sounds from her that he had only ever heard in his dreams. 

Jeremiah knocks her hand away, clatters his fork into hers and slices the cake, stealing her bite while she snorts. “Not my finest moment,” he mutters, looking down at the thick chocolate frosting before glancing at the hand he swatted off, at the shimmering diamond that rests against the back of Mia’s ring finger. 

Not a lot of things have changed in a year, and yet everything has changed at the same time. 

Two cats still circle Jeremiah’s feet, letting their tails curl around his legs and tickle his ankles before he lifts them up, one in each hand, and lays them over his shoulders, letting their legs hang over his chest, stretched out while he picks his fork back up and shakes his head. 

“You love them,” Mia says, and Jeremiah rolls his eyes. 

“They’re alright,” he groans, but the two of them purr, happy as clams to drape over his shoulders and over his neck, tucked into his face when he’s trying to sleep, brushing their tails over his eyes and falling asleep on his chest. 

Cat dad, she says whenever she sneaks up behind him and pets the little critters who spend their days outstretched in the strips of light shining in through the living room windows, always, always, tucked into each other, licking each other’s fur. 

Jeremiah likes to tell himself that proposing and moving in together in the same year was too much, but the ring was burning a hole in his dresser drawer and the words spilled out of him faster than he could catch them, down on one knee with the little box in his hand and his heart in his throat. Mia’s lease could get lost, and so could his imaginary timeline, and he doesn’t regret, for a second, the life they have sewn together, after it felt like all he had was ashes.

Remember, remember the 5th of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason Why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot…

But mostly we should absolutely never forget another important event on this day…

My favorite villain, and the reason everything I write today feels utterly meaningless 🤍 I hate you and I love you, guido inside my brain.

My first ever true original character - all thanks to him for giving me the opportunity to write my first ever full original fic.

Also, seeking would not exist at all had it not been for Jay - I thought him up before any of the plot, I just knew I wanted the main character to be married to a lawyer named Jeremiah, and I thought him up well over a year ago.

i miss them too. this is so embarrassing but FD is actually my own comfort read when i wake up and cant fall back asleep. reading my own stuff always puts me to sleep cause its predictable, but FD just... none of my works mean nearly as much to me as FD does and being in jay's head is so comforting hahah

its a matter of time before i write something for him/them, but i guess im still recuperating from pouring my heart and soul into that whole thing lol

finally dawn: epilogue

well, that's it - we are at the very end. i'm posting it only a few days after the last chapter, but i felt like wrapping it up for those of you who have waited for the whole thing to be out before you start reading, or have saved up chapters till it's all done.

i don't really think i'll take much of a posting break since i have a couple chapters of javi lined up, but we'll see. i'll be here either way, so feel to visit my inbox!!
