Smart Money Academy is proud to partner with JuniorAchievement of Greater Washington on the upcoming Finance Park in Prince George’s County. The park is scheduled to open Fall 2015.
Finance Park
Today me and my class mates went to Finance Park. Finance park is where kids dress up and learn how to handle money and pay bills. I worked at Publixs with my friends Laura, Hannah, Rikki, and Konner,(also Nicole but she wasn’t feeling well). A volunteer named Roger (or was it Robert? I now feel bad for forgetting) help our group and he was lots of fun. Then after figuring out our NMIs and budgeting our expensive we began talking and we( mostly Robert) began teasing Rikki and Laura about beefy sweaty trumpet players. After they died of laughter and embarrassment they then moved on to my beefy baritone player, I’m pretty sure I looked red, I felt red and I shushed them because people who know him were around but they still continued. Then our group had lunch group A and had pizza and cinnamon sticks and talked to Mr.Weaver ( a very funny, sarcastic man) the whole half hour was spent in laughter. Plus as I come to find Mr. Weaver has a very contagious laugh. After that we got to buy stuff. I bought a tote bag and I plan on using it for school, eventually. Then after a cramped bus ride back to school ( I had to awkwardly sit on Laura’s lap on the ride to Finance Park too) I went to band and walked in to a tense room and quickly grab my trombone and play Sinfonia 6 third movement. After the majority of the tiger band kids were in the band room we have a tornado drill. Mrs.B makes a face and we still continue to play then mid way through the fourth movement a lady walks in and is like “We’re in a tornado drill and we heard you playing-” then the 6th grade administrator walked in and the face she made was priceless, absolutely priceless, so priceless that a few people had a hard time containing there laughter. So the whole band was forced to go in a duck in cover position. Devin then says “Doesn’t Daniel look like he’s going to get beaten up er something?” and I look over at Devin then Daniel, he’s curled up in a corner, back towards the wall, face beet red and smiles over at me as if he doesn’t look really silly ” Yeah he really does, it kinda looks like he already got beaten” I reply back. After band I went to math then went home. It was a good day today but I still have Friday to go though.
Finance Park at Stavros Center, Pinellas County Convention and Visitor's Bureau
The center teaches 8th graders about personal finance and budgeting through simulated life experiences. The CVB is styling up an area so that students can be exposed to the impact that tourism has on the county's economy and on their own personal career choices. Working to design the area, sourcing photos, creating activities for students.
