so deeply upsetting that major game studios are now justifying and normalizing the use of genAI and trying to pull the whole "well we're not using it in other parts of development don't worry". do they not realize that trust is completely gone? what guarantee is there that they won't do it again? NONE because they seem perfectly okay with using genAI during production, even as a placeholder, without disclosing it to their players at the beginning, they are most likely will do it again. almost as if they KNOW what they're doing will hurt many people and lose their community despite whatever they say about it being placeholders. fuck generative ai at any process of game development.
what they're forgetting is that these tasks they deem mundane or tedious could've absolutely been a huge opportunity for junior devs and concept artists to take over the roles and learn from their companies, especially in this landscape when there are so few roles offered to them looking to make their entry into the industry. it's so fucking bleak. i'm speaking as someone who had struggled so much trying to break into the game industry for YEARS. it's always been so deeply difficult for newcomers with no experience under their belt. i can only imagine it's even more difficult NOW more than ever with job availability getting scarce due to companies integrating genAI into their system.
generative AI has no place in the process of creating art. not even as a placeholder or references. you've plenty of incredible people who are more than eager to search everywhere to gain inspirations and ideas. yet you decide a MACHINE churning out incomprehensible slop is better than that. all this and have the audacity to say that you're not disrespecting the artists that works for you whatsoever. then what? pull the rug under their feet once the genAI is fully integrated into your development process? because this is absolutely where it's going.
what an absolute fucking joke.
