We’ve all heard the old saying, “find a penny, pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck.” But in a world where there is little to no value placed on the penny, how many of us actually take the time to pick one up (even if luck is promised for an entire day)?
In an effort to bring value and excitement back to the penny (and its silver brothers) I have started a new project. I am affectionately, and quite appropriately, titling it, Find A Penny, Pick It Up.
The project is simple: each time I come across a penny, nickel, dime or quarter on the ground - I pick it up. I take the change home and put it in a small Mason jar designated for coins I find in random places throughout my days. At the end of one year, I’ll add it all up and see just how much value can still be found in spare change on the ground!
I started my projected on June 1, 2015 and will see it through until May 31, 2016. And while I don’t expect to have $100 at the end of a year, it will be exciting to see the amount of money people tend to walk by on a regular basis.
Here’s to a year of finding some pennies, picking them up - and hopefully - having some good luck!
