Finding freedom final thoughts

First off I gotta say if Omid has never climbed into a club bathroom window to be in the same place as Henri then he’s not a true royal author (kt nicholl still reigns for that reason alone). *I retract this! KT did climb through a window to mingle with celebs and did meet Henri at a club AND hung around Boujis so she could bump into them but didn’t climb to find henri*

So was it good?

If ur a casual watcher of this whole saga then it’s fine. It’s not badly written and is easy to read. It has all the facts in there. It’s just rly cheesy in parts and has a lot of quotes from other people about how great they are, which is to be expected. For anyone who watched it all go down, it’s a bit of a drag. Apart from the funny anecdotes eg pippas seating plan, there wasn’t much new.

Megri’s involvement

My opinion on this is that there was no Diana tapes situation here or any interview with them. But it’s pretty obvious they were involved through the other sources and what they allowed to be said. The details are too precise and the angle of the book too particular, case in point...

Liz

Ur gonna be disappointed if u wanted this to be a liz and co call out. Liz is portrayed as understanding, loved and respected at all times. And I even got a “she don’t rly give a fuck about all this” kinda vibe too. I would not be shocked if it was pressed into the authors to not blame Liz for any of this. Even chuck gets off scot free. Even when Henri released that first statement during chucks tour, he is portrayed as being understanding. Someone out there doesn’t want the “Chuck is jealous” narrative to return.

Willy and k8

I expected way more on Willy and for him to take the fall in this book but it was not to be. All we got was that they got mad/hurt by each other and were on and off in their brotherly relationship. There were a couple of anecdotes about willy supporting Henri in setting up on his own. The worst willy did was the “this girl” thing and Henris belief that willys team were leaking/not helping. And even then the tone of it was more like Henri was paranoid. The impression I got of k8 here was that she doesn’t give a fuck and wants to stay out of it and go grow potatoes or whatever she does with the kids. I’ve seen a review and a few people in the fandom talk about Meg’s obsession with k8/k8 being unwelcoming but I didn’t see that. All it rly said is that they were never close and Meg might’ve wanted more support. But it also says k8 told her to contact her when she wanted support. If anything, the book gave k8s side a lot.

The irrelevant details

If ur a meg fan then I guess you’d be interested in these. But lord surely they’ll even be bored of the EXACT descriptions of what’s on their plates, the fact their Range Rover is navy blue (2 mentions!) and the complete history of the rooms they went on dates in.

Charity

Ok there was SO FUCKING MUCH about their charity work. I had to skim so much bc it was multiple paragraphs on each cause and the history of how they’ve supported it. I know Omid talks a lot about that in general but how did this all get past the editing stage?! My unsubstantiated theory is that in return for access, Omid had to write all of that. Or maybe they needed page fillers. As dull as one of k8s potatoes.

Misha Nonoo

We have to talk about Misha. What the fuuuuck was going on there. She has to be a main source for this book right?! They could literally rename it finding misha with all the ass kissing and life and property history of her in this book. I don’t even know what this woman looks like but I can tell you she’s smart AND pretty AND talented. Jessica Mulroney is for sure another source with all the info about them hanging out.

Henri and Meg impressions

My opinion of meg hasn’t changed at all after this. Other than even more respect for marrying Henri.

Henri however comes across as a annoying af. Constantly losing his shit and being corny. Like sure he’s devoted to his fam, but he reminds me of those kids at school who get their first bf/gf and only refer to them as “my gf/bf” in a rly serious way. No wonder skippy was pissed off.

Who’s the baddie?

I didn’t come away from this book knowing who was wrong. There’s A LOT of references to “aides” getting in between the Sussexes and the rest of the fam. But there’s no info on whose aides. Occasionally it would reference KP but it was rly vague about who was the issue. Bc Omid for sure steered away from blaming the rf themselves.

Was it the “definitive story” of Megri?

No, it was told from their side. They did make effort to get quotes from the palaces who were pissed off. But for it to be definitive, it should include their words, which Omid denies having soooo yeh.
