What are your thoughts on this game? Do you think it is easier or harder than previous years, and as good of a spectator sport?
HEY GREAT QUESTION THANKS IT’S RANTING TIME :D
I just got out of a long and rather boring strategy meeting at which I did absolutely nothing (I mean, I’m an alum, so I don’t need to do anything anymore). But I did glean a lot of info, so here’s my hot take.
Infinite Recharge reminds me a lot of Stronghold. Stronghold was a good game, so this should be a good game. And it looks to be a fascinating one.
I feel like this is a great year for low-ball scorers, since you don’t need to accrue a certain number of points through the goal, only a certain number of balls scored. In previous years, it was more about the points than the number of balls, and it’ll certainly be easier to score more balls using a low-ball scoring mechanism. So that’s a great amendment.
The endgame is going to be INTERESTING. I love the balancing mechanism thingamajig, and the points that you can get from that! It’ll be a fun challenge for the teams that wanna try.
Also. The colour spinny wheel turntable gizmo. That’s nifty. There are so many possible ways to spin that thing... it’s awesome. And I like the whole trench run thing, it reminds me of the low bar from Stronghold. It might be a good idea to have a robot spin the wheel from the bottom, in order to keep it under the bar’s height? Plus, the colours are visible from there.
Our team mentioned two interesting things. 1, you can’t be touched in the trench run, else it’s a foul. I think. So shooting from there would be kind of a long shot, but it could be useful. 2, a rolling mechanism to move the robot along the bar to rebalance it once it’s climbed already. Sounds tough, but I bet 254 will try it.
As a spectator sport? I think it might be kind of tough for spectators to see the wheel, especially the one on the opposite side. This could be a problem for scouting. Plus, the bonus inside target is tough to see, too, which could be another issue.
So I think visibility will be a bit rough, kind of like Steamworks, but I think it’ll be a fun game to watch. Definitely better than Recycle Rush.
Thanks again for your question, and I hope my rant might help out any teams who want some random NE FIRST alum’s hot take.
