Summary:
On mornings like this, where the light of day is barely creeping over the horizon and the heat of the room can’t seep through the thin layer of his skin as easily as the day before, Joo-won isn't sure why he's still here. Trapped, as Kwon Hyuk would say, in this little lodge town at the top of a mountain in Gangwon-do.
After everything he's done, everything that's been dug up by his once clean hands. In the ugly face of all the truths that have been sprinkled around him like fresh snow, the kind he used to despise with his entire being for the way it would cling to his hair and coat. Joo-won doesn't know why his boots are stuck, frozen in place.
Then Dong-sik, sleep-deprived, weary, but finally at peace and undoubtedly happy, catches his eye again. This time their gazes meet. The man smiles at Joo-won from across the rescue station table while sipping too-hot coffee, and Joo-won is reminded.
