Whether a people (or country) is Scandinavian is generally defined by their location relative to the Scandinavian Peninsula and linguistic group. Denmark is included due to its close proximity.

Finland is primarily not a part of the Scandinavian Peninsula.

Finnish is not a Scandinavian language.

Fennoswedes are the primary people of the Åland Islands.

The distance between Åland and mainland Scandinavia is roughly 25 km.

Fennoswedes speak a Scandinavian language.

Ergo, Finns aren't Scandinavian, but Fennoswedes are.

OK I WASN’T LOSING IT, here’s some more context to the moomins eating meat post below, but specifically the boar thing

so while it’s true that the moomins did kill and eat a boar, the context is even more out there, as expected since it’s from the comics

see, moominmamma goes to find food for the family, snorkmaiden and a professor character (who i think is only part of this comic?) as they are stuck on a deserted island. she finds a wild boar, and thinks to herself “and i’m part of an animal rights organization... but it has to be done!”

(sorry about the quality of some portions of the pages below, it’s an old copy i got from a book convention many years ago) 

she then gets the idea to throw powder in the boar’s eyes. the boar gets disoriented, tries to headbutt moominmamma but hits a nearby tree instead hard enough that it dies. she cooks it nonchalantly and everyone eats.

now... in some editions of collections of the comics, including the one i have, the boar storyline ends on moominpappa getting a rock stuck in his stomach that moominmamma put in the boar’s mouth in place of an apple, and then moves on to the part where moomintroll discovers the moomin family’s ancestors underground (again, moomin comics)

but in what i presume is the original version, the boar’s partner finds out what happened and chases them into the ocean. this is the only image of it i can find online ATM, but i remember seeing the original black and white version as a kid somewhere

translation of the panels:

2. professor character: “a nonsensical end [or fate, dunno which translates better] for a scientist...”

3. moominmamma: “can’t you forgive us for eating your husband?”

other boar: “now that i think about it, well... yes! he was a real bore.” [i don’t think this “pun” works in swedish, certainly not in finnish, so it’s just a coincidence that it translates like that]

4. other boar: “but you [plural] have to bury the bones.”

moomintroll: “of course.”
