So Real Beside Me
by galacticproportions
Explicit, 16,643, library AU because it’s time to stock up for winter
Summary:
Finn still isn't sure why he decided to take the internship in this small community library, in this city so small it's practically a town. He wanted to get out of the bigger city, maybe, missed the smells of grass and trees; maybe he wanted to see how close he could stand to be to the place that for all intents and purposes, he comes from. He hadn't expected to find anything new here.
--------------
Okay imagine like the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt plot but serious.
It’s a small town, Finn escapes what seems to be a cult at a young age, emancipates himself but cannot find his family and begins working towards becoming a librarian/records keeper/archivist to prevent things like that happening again.
Poe gives free legal aid to people who only speak Spanish and they both meet at the library.
This fic seemed so unique to me because the characters are POOR, they have to work and make tough decisions due to lack of funds. Now it’s clear to me that a huge point of reading any form of fantasy is escapism but this realistic AU was kind of refreshing. Not only that, the fact that it’s their relationship helping them through these kind of difficulties was even more heartwarming.
It’s pretty mature and there’s mentions of police brutality, violence etc. so fair warning.
