Couldn't concentrate on writing, so I made these instead. My Soft Voices versions of Bill, Eoin, Johnny, Augustin, Paddy, Reg (to the extent of my limited drawing ability, anyway).

Looking at Benn Beckman, maybe beautiful isn't the first descriptor that comes to mind - he's largely agreed upon as handsome, as sexy - but not so much beautiful.
To his captain, Beckman is always beautiful. His dogged loyalty, the levelheaded expression and gunmetal of his eyes even in the heat of battle, scarred and callused hands wrapped around the barrel of his rifle, performing nightly ritual, reverence - what could he be, if not beautiful?
A couple of extra ones as a belated Valentine's Day for you all:
Paddy indulging Eoin at a photobooth because he cannot say no to him 💚
Some more Soft Voices modern AU lore:
Things Eoin knows about Bill (after living together for a over a decade)
When grocery shopping, he buys the same brand of everything out of habit. If the packaging changes, he complains like it’s a personal attack on him, then buys it anyway.
He also forgets to buy bin bags every time. Every. Single. Time. Will remember literally everything else.
He pretends he doesn’t care what music Eoin plays in the flat, but will skip songs he doesn’t like the second Eoin leaves the room.
He folds laundry with military precision and then leaves it sitting in a pile on a chair for days because apparently that counts as 'put away.'
He never finishes a mug of tea. Always leaves the last mouthful. Eoin always cleans the mugs and has never asked why.
He constantly forgets to turn lights off, got annoyed with himself about it, and solved the problem by installing smart lights on a timer. This is how Bill approaches most problems: decisively overcorrecting.
He has a very strong opinion about how a dishwasher should be loaded. Unrelated, he is extremely good at Tetris.
He eats cereal out of a mug because it feels more efficient. It isn’t.
He checks the locks before bed or leaving the house, sometimes more than once, but only when Eoin is home.
He leaves cupboard doors open and insists he doesn’t.
He always offers Eoin the last of anything, even when he clearly wants it himself.
A little bit of Soft Voices modern AU lore:
Things Bill knows about Eoin (after living together for a over a decade)
He pretends he's not, but Eoin is a goddamn busybody. He always wants to know everyone's business. Absolutely loves gossip. He never spreads it, he just needs to know it all.
He's actually great at taking a compliment. Always says thank you. Unlike a lot of people who deflect (Bill) or play it up to pretend they're arrogant but are really insecure (Johnny).
The only lie Eoin has ever told Paddy was when Paddy accidentally pushed Eoin onto the sofa and fell on top of him. Paddy asked if it hurt, Eoin said no. It did. Quite a bit. But not enough for Eoin to say anything and ruin the moment. (Bill is still upset Eoin told him this, he doesn't want to know about their sex life at all, not even mild references.)
Eoin perfectly remembers how everyone takes their tea and coffee. He also has a sixth sense and is able to guess how anyone takes their tea before he's told. Bill once asked how he did it and Eoin looked at him like Bill was the weird one for not being able to guess.
He spends too much money on phone chargers because he never says no when someone asks to borrow one, then never asks for them back. He believes they're like pens: no one really owns them, they just get passed around forever.
He once reheated his tea in the microwave and didn't hate it. He still feels bad about it to this day.
He always rubs the back of his neck when he's uncomfortable. It's the first tell Bill ever noticed. It's also the reason Bill always beats him at poker. Eoin rubs the back of his neck when he has a good hand. The implication that winning makes Eoin uncomfortable frustrates Bill to no end.
He’s an excellent listener and a terrible interrupter. He'll wait so patiently for his turn to speak that the moment passes and he forgets what he was going to say.
He is physically incapable of leaving a party without saying goodbye to everyone individually. Even if it takes half an hour. Even if Bill is already holding the door.
He apologises when other people bump into him. He apologises to inanimate objects when he bumps into them.
He assumes everyone else is always doing their best. Even when they very obviously are not.

Summary:
Paddy goes to David Stirling’s birthday party against his better judgement, fully intending to have one drink, stay out of the way, and leave as soon as he can. Instead, he notices a man on the dance floor.
Paddy does not, as a rule, watch people. He certainly does not, as a rule, cross a room to speak to them. And he does not, under any circumstances, invite them home.
But rules have never served Paddy Mayne particularly well.
Notes:
Two weeks ago I had absolutely no plans on writing this at all. Then I got ‘I Feel it Coming’ by The Weeknd stuck in my head and here we are. Enjoy!
Thanks SO much to @johntonkin for beta reading this, I am eternally grateful! As always you made both the writing process and the end result so, so much better!!
Chapter 2 will be up pretty soon!
snippet sunday. thank you for the tag @johntonkin!
It's currently 4.30pm on a Monday but as my title says "fuck it, why not".
Here's a snippet from the next chapter of my Bill/Augustin fic.
Up close, he is younger than Bill first thought. Or perhaps simply less settled into himself. His clothes look expensive without appearing as though he has spent any time considering them, which means he has almost certainly spent a great deal of time considering them. He is also, Bill has to admit, extremely attractive. Which makes sense, if he is Reg’s boyfriend. It makes considerably less sense when Johnny looks him over for a second time and says, “Augustin neglected to mention you were built like—” he waves a hand in Bill’s direction, “—this.” Bill glances at Reg. His expression has become carefully blank. “Built like what?” Bill asks. Johnny pushes himself upright. “Don’t make me flatter you explicitly. It takes all the fun out of it.” Reg makes a sound that Bill can only describe as a growl. “Stop distracting him.” Johnny looks back at Bill. “Am I distracting you?” “No,” Bill says. Reg’s mouth tightens. Johnny’s smile turns delighted. “See?” Bill is beginning to suspect that whatever is happening has very little to do with him.
Six Weeks, Three Months, Forever
New Paddy/Eoin fic is up!
Six Weeks, Three Months, Forever Rated: E | Word Count: 14,310
Technically Soft Voices Part 2, but can be read as a standalone if you haven’t read ‘Music, When Soft Voices Die’.
Chapter 1 is SFW. Chapter 2 is extremely not.
Set about six months after Soft Voices, and follows Eoin’s hip replacement, recovery, and the way chronic pain reshapes intimacy.
This one’s about healing that doesn’t erase pain, about care and patience, and about learning what your body can do now, and getting to choose it.
There’s domestic softness, a month away in the Cotswolds, intimacy rooted in consent, communication, and working within physical limits... and, eventually, discovering that some things are now officially “sometimes activities.”
