Sustainability - TEDx Manhattan
In today’s post I felt that it is important to broaden the topic of sustainability. After all the, the EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) defines sustainability as “Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.” (EPA.gov) Although, major education on the topic may be unnecessary, I still feel that in order for consumers to fully understand the idea of renewable, clean technology and business procedures, it is important to know how it relates to the foundations of sustainability.
And, in this case, it was recently announced that a sustainable food event down on Manhattan, New York, will be hosted by TEDx Manhattan on February 16, 2013. The event is called Changing the Way We Eat and according to redorbit.com‘s guest list, the event will feature speakers such as “Annemarie Colbin, Ph.D. – Founder and CEO of the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in New York City, Annemarie is also on the board of the non-profit organization FIONS (Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences); Health Corps, the organization founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz; of What Doctors Don’t Tell You (UK); and the Source of Synergy Foundation.” among many others.
So, for all you techies out there this event may be about food but like I said, the principles of sustainability are often applied in our industry as well. So, if you’re in the NYC in February, check it out if you want know more about how a sustainable diet and lifestyle is could change your life for the better.
