When a sudden gust of wind caught Algy's rainbow umbrella and swirled it up into the sky with Algy sprawled helplessly inside it, he clutched at the long handle with his beak and held on tightly until the umbrella began to turn over, at which point he deemed it prudent to let go before it decided to play any more tricks on him…

Dropping down into a nice soft fir tree, which fortunately was just beneath him, Algy gasped for breath, shaken but unbowed, while his umbrella twirled away out of sight, then he gradually began to relax as the winter sun emerged more strongly from behind the clouds.

For a few moments all was light and blue sky, and although Algy could see more rain clouds approaching from the west, it was very pleasant to rest in the sunshine for a wee while after his almost-too-exciting adventure, and listen to the song thrush, who was already beginning to sing his annual salutation to the coming spring…
