Short review and my opinion on Pokemon Fire Red
So as some of you remember I said I was going to do a play through of all the generations of pokemon and I just started up Fire Red from the beginning to begin Generation one.
Now let me just say even for a game made in 2004 the graphics are phenominal and I love it so much cause this was my childhood. Pokemon has been a bi part of my life and I grew up on the original games. Fire Red brings back lots of memories from when I was a kid but more or less it brings back joy.
Lets start off shall we? Booting up the game and I already am in love with this. The right to the point style of the game is really nice and convenient. Nothing even happens till you step out the door and try to head down route 1. Oak brings you to his lab and gives you a starter. I shose Charmander and nicknamed him Yulvig. The battle with your rival ( i named him Chris) is easy and teaches you the basics. It even gives you the incite on type disadvantage which other games do not. Your first mission is to get Oak's parcel from Viridian city. Easy as it goes. Then you get the Pokedex and then your journey begins. simple as that. nothing more straight forward than that really. No hoops to jump through just a straight line.
I lost the first battle but that's okay
Heading to Viridian city is a short walk. You encounter a few things on the way and thats that. the rest of the game after this task is really simple, train your pokemon, beat gyms, beat team rocket, and beat the elite four becoming the champion. after that there are some other things you can do to keep the game moving, a nice addition to the original games. It keeps the same idea in mind of training and capturing new pokemon to complet the pokedex, Kanto and national. At this time in the pokemon time line only three generations existed so if you get all three generations in this game, good for you :P
In short, i love this game. Not alot of people like gen 1 for how slow and hard it can be, but with a little patience and a little bit of time, you can get through it. My Charizard, Xiuchotal, in pokemon y version made it from Fire Red to pokemon Y and he is one of my most powerful pokemon. Proof enough to say that this game is worth picking up and playing through. Some pokemon you can get in this game can become super powerful in other games and can even learn moves they can't in other games. EX: in emerald Gyarados can learn T-bolt and thats rare and i got one. Xiuchotal is my most powerful Charizard i have in my arsenal, the others don't compare to his power for some reason and not just because i super trained him but because of how well he is in battle. his moves are still from Fire Red (with the acception of overheat and flare blitz which i made him learn in platinum and heartgold) and he still packs a mean punch to anything. Im glad to play this game any day of the week. It brings back so many good memories and im glad to still have it.
If you have this game, and don't play it, or you have the other version Leaf Green and don't play it, I advise you take a moment, reminice on the past and play the game through and see what you missed. The new games are great but they don't have the one thing the these games do, which is continuous playability. The new games make me feel like I can't restart without losing everything. but with the transfer systems now in place i can get my fire red pokemon over to X or Y no problem and then start it over again. Thats what i love about it. I never have to worry and my pokemon I trade over can be used again in battles against other people and I get to say, "these guys were transfered over from Fire Red version and been in the other games fighting with my other teams for a long time" thats something special I think.
