Fire-fighter dies, colleague seriously injured after both run over by lorry
JOHOR BARU, June 22:
A fire-fighter died while his colleague was seriously injured when they were run over by a three-tonne lorry carrying rocks at Batu 29, Pengkalan Raja, near here today.
According to the official Twitter account of the Fire and Rescue Department, the victim who died at the scene was identified as Mohammad Taufiq Ali while the injured was identified as Suboh Abdullah.
Both victims from the Pekan Nenas Fire Brigade were believed to have been packing up fire-fighting equipment used to put out bush fires when the accident happened.
It is understood that Taufik’s body had been sent to the Pontian Hospital for a post-mortem before being handed over to his family in Batu Pahat.
Pontian District Police Chief Supt Zahaliman Jaamin refused to elaborate further and said any information would be issued tomorrow.
