see the thing that confuses me is that there’s been so much build up on jon and bran and their connection to the NK and now we’re just supposed to pretend like none of that ever mattered? its truly like they picked a name at random for shock value i guess? asoiaf is riddled with foreshadowing and symbolism and this feels so cheap

D&D have never and will never care about Bran or his storyline. Nothing mattered to them except shock value and whatever “happy ending” they can spin at the end...

Hello! Personally I’ve found it difficult to find (what my standards define as ‘good’) fics, due to a bunch of reasons. Unfortunately there aren’t many fics that focus on DickKory as opposed to RobStar - (the cartoon version of their relationship which is different to the comics version). I’m a big fan of comic DickKory and so when people use any of the cartoon mannerisms on Kory or on their relationship, I tend to dislike the fic. 

All of the fics that I’ve recommended below are also available on [fyeahdickkory’s fanfic rec list]. Currently that list stands at a small fifteen fics, ranging from oneshots to (short) multi-chaptered fics. I’ve listed below my three favourite fics from that list, along with their ratings and links! The links are in the titles.

Let’s Try This Again by dreamynytemare | Rated M for Mature themes (but nothing explicit) | Complete

This fic is lovely because it reflects on previous comic history between the two, and slots it nicely into a cute story. Both Dick and Kory are in character and it’s honestly just a sweet story. This is one of the fics I like to read again whenever I need a DickKory fix (which is like, everyday if I’m being honest)

If/When by MariGrayson | Rated T for Teen | Ongoing

Again, this is one of those fics that I love re-reading. The writing style is very fluid, the characters feel lifted off from the comic pages and it’s a canon divergence plotline that is my favourite. The writer (who’s an amazing friend of mine) has probably the best knowledge of the NTT series and the canon from that era of DC and the ripples of the canon divergence are really obvious. It’s one of those fics that really makes my heart ache for several reasons.

Batman: The Furnace Room Goodbye by Het Up | Rated M for Mature Themes (bordering on explicit) | Complete

I love this fic but it is very angsty. The fic is primarily based in the Batman side of things, but features both Dick and Kory in prominent roles. Once more, this fic has very obvious canon and timeline references, and the storyline is good. Beware of angst though.

reasons you and anyone else reading this would like killjoys:

leading lady dutch and leading man johnny (ice man from wolverine’s twin brother) are not in any way romantically involved and there is an immense respect held and value placed on this platonic relationship. it is not “less” than a romance

the other guy has a punchable face but he’s a crazy amnesiac soldier so if you’ve liked...some other things...with that trope...it took awhile but he really grew on me and i like him a lot now

actually, i don’t think there’s a single character who didn’t grow on me eventually

two of them are brothers but the platonic ot3 vibe is off the charts

all fight scenes come with ridiculously upbeat music. like it is just such a good time

some freaky mirror double twin clone shit stuff. twin fans...this is it

canon gays who are just plain evil. they aren’t unproblematic. they aren’t good representation. they are just evil and loving it and i love that for them

a bartender who is also gay who i’ve decided is the only man allowed to say the word bitch. his makeup is always perfect

lead lady dutch is allowed to feel complicated messy ways about her father/abuser. it’s never as clean cut as just plain hating him even if she hates what he did

when lead lady dutch sleeps with mr. punchable-but-lovable and it doesn’t work out theyre allowed to feel complicated ways about it and reset to platonic affection for a long-ass fucking time they dont just pretend bad shit never happened like in some shows and erase the trauma by next season

it is like laugh out loud funny. they just say whatever they want. they swear like i do. it’s like what buffy was trying to do with its dialogue but if joss whedon was actually funny instead of a scumbag. it’s the perfect balance of not taking itself too seriously and treating serious stuff with the respect it deserves

johnny spends a sizable portion of the show flirting with the ai in dutch’s ship. the ship is more or less in love with him

there are so many women. there are SO many women. some of them are batshit insane. i love it

agreed. I'm not very sure on what GRRM has told them about his ending but there's no way any of this is what he is planning, unless they decided to just say "fuck it" and tried to conclude this on their own with talent they do not have

The idea that Arya is going to be the one to end the white walkers is just laughable to me. Absolutely no foreshadowing at all. D&D just threw shit on the wall and called it a day. They always had no interest in the magic and the ACTUAL storyline of the book. The book is about humanity facing an existential crisis but being unable to see that come together (it might be a metaphor for climate change, to be honest). D&D as always never have understood the books. s

3.15 Galvanize - untangingling string scene - so i’m using this as kind of like a quick example and shorthand for “most of 3B tbh” because i just watched it today with @machidielontheway, but this scene where lydia is doubting herself because her banshee’s intuition didn’t lead them to who they were looking for, and stiles says he still believes she was right and would go back and search all night to prove it if he had to - like, it’s romantic enough! but what really gets me is the surprised way she looks at him, and the genuinely touched smile she gives him after the offer. like - ok, i really hated stydia in 3A because they got 1. the panic attack kiss and 2. her being his anchor, but aside from that they barely interacted at all when they weren’t talking shop about the case and it felt SO FORCED AND AWFUL, like even tho both characters had grown beyond their base tropes of Nice Guy Who’s Actually Horribly Obsessive and Popular Bitchy Girl (lbr lydia outgrew that ages back but it took stiles longer) they didn’t grow very much AROUND EACH OTHER. in 3B they got the chance to do that, and you see most of it in their body language, which this scene illustrates perfectly. lydia’s not afraid to touch him or for him to touch her ~lest he get the wrong idea~ even tho they’re both single at this point bc they’ve had time to settle into a real friendship instead of “this borderline creepy guy and the girl he kind of stalks.” it’s like really nice and comfortable without romantic expectation which is like Key for me because when they smooched and did the anchor thing it was like HEY SLOW DOWN STOP PUSHING THIS ON ME and in 3B they showed us, not told us, that lydia and stiles liked each other, to some effect - i think when 3B aired my thing was “i like them as great friends, nearly besties, but NOT as a ship” and like they did a lot of nearly-platonic touching in 3B which was A+ (think: the entire finale)

4.09 Perishable - TURN IT OFF!!! - so they had this body language thing going in s4 too, but my favorite stydia part of s4 was when they were both trapped in eichen, which is like…stiles’ personal hell lmao and lydia is having to listen to this recording of someone she loved being murdered, and stiles tries to drown it out by talking to her, and then gets genuinely furious and yells for brunski to shut it the fuck off. like, he genuinely wants to protect her BECAUSE HE CARES, not because he wants to prove he’s better than her current boyfriend or whatever (god it helped that she got to be single for so long) - like imo it’s just really sweet that they’re somewhere that scares him so badly and his #1 concern is making sure she’s okay

6.01 Memory Lost - cheek kiss - this was when i should have known in hindsight that i was fucked, because lydia like, figures out what they’re dealing with, and stiles: overwhelmed with adoration, is like, “god i could kiss you!” and she’s like “do Not kiss me” and then he kisses her on the cheek anyway AND I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISGUSTED because she literally just told him not to do that and like i was a little, but: she smiled after, they’re platonic touchy friends at this point, they’re Incredibly comfortable around one another, and it was…yikes. it was cute. it was. bonus addition: him telling her he still loved her in this ep. like…i know they had a moment about this in season 5, but season 5 is cursed so we don’t talk about it, but like - the fact that he’s content enough to just be her friend and That’s All with no other expectation (you get this later too - “i didn’t say it back” / “you didn’t have to”) gives me a very strong ben & claire (from @cambionverse) vibe and i cannot resist it

6.05 Radio Silence - wall shot - i could say things about this whole entire ep but like in Particular it was the scene where she’s on one side of the wall and he’s on the other - That Shot fucking killed me - the fact that they were both fighting SO HARD to see each other again and they believed so hard that they WOULD and the consequences of NOT doing it were so real and tangible and devastating - i really enjoy 6A but some of the SCRIPT is a bit lacking - but they act it well enough to show us how they feel without the writers having to tell us, and that’s what sold it for me! i was officially suckered in by the end of this episode. goddammit they really did get me in the end 

6.09 Memory Found - lydia remembering stiles - THAT BEING SAID this one kind of retroactively made me appreciate the formerly hated kiss in 3A (or at least hate it less…) just because of the way they rehashed it here - using the same music but letting it finish playing as opposed to cutting it off was a really superb touch. it wound up giving us a little montage of my favorite moments - body laguage moments, the string thing, etc - and sort of showing us that he grew up, and was willing to move on, and was happy enough to be her friend - that’s genuine love, not creepy obsession - it OOZES the claire/ben vibe, and i adore it. did not think i could feel this way about my one & only notp but Here We Are
