Okay, so I finally finished The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss today, and let me tell you: there are not enough words to explain how absolutely incredible this book is. It is - and I mean this wholeheartedly - one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
I never could have imagined before I read it how rich, intricate, and enrapturing this story really is. It is so dark and heartbreaking, witty and understandable, romantic and honest, and positively outstanding, and it is, in itself, its own universe that steals you away and keeps your heart until the very end. I read one review earlier, and it is perfectly true: this is a book that should be proudly stored beside The Lord of the Rings and any other classic fantasy epics that really define the genre.
Its characters are completely alive, complex, and engrossing in their own way, particularly lovely Kvothe, who has made me laugh, made my heart ache, and left me thinking for hours after I stopped reading. He is so passionate, intelligent, clever, intriguing, and beautiful; a hero that is so unique and rare and spectacular to witness. He is more than just words on a book, he is a living, breathing man that I have gotten to know with such amazing clarity.
In this story, I have found everything that a good tale needs and more, and most of all, I have found a world that I’ve completely fallen in love with.
Bravo, Mr. Rothfuss, and thank you for blessing me with this breathtaking adventure that I can keep on my bookshelf with others that have touched my heart and stayed in my thoughts. I can’t explain to you how much it means to me as a reader and as a person.
