If Rose had been a Firefly fan, you know damn well she would have never let go.
Completely nerding out while watching Nathan Fillion in Castle referencing Firefly... Twice. Lol
Good female roles in Firefly - and even better fans!
You know I find it interesting... How Joss Whedon is always praised for writing good & interesting roles for women.
The fiery warrior woman
The sweet mechanic
The troubled psychic
The beautiful courtesan
Or rather what I find interesting is that no one chastises Inara for her choice. The fans don't insult her and the characters don't insult her either. (Mal insults her profession mildly but not her - and she puts him in his place every time. And Jayne... well Jayne's kinda horrific but even he doesn't insult her).
I like this. I like the fact that Firefly fans don't just "tolerate" that a woman chose the outer-space equivalent of the adult industry... they love her and celebrate her beauty & intellect.
Firefly fans - these are the kind of people who get it right, who accept and understand ALL women's choices, not just SOME women's choices.
=)
The view from space has always had the "wow" factor. Now thanks to the bay window-like cupola attached to the new Tranquility node, the International Space Station has a panoramic view that takes the wow factor to the max. The STS-130 astronauts delivered the two new space station pieces, the final components of the U.S. segment of the station, aboard space shuttle Endeavour during the first mission of the year. After a one-day weather delay, the shuttle raced into space through Florida's pre-dawn darkness Feb. 8, 2010. The assembled crew consisted of Commander George Zamka, Pilot Terry Virts, and Mission Specialists Robert Behnken, Nicholas Patrick, Kathryn Hire and Stephen Robinson.
from STS-120 Mission Summary
STS-130 (ISS assembly flight 20A)was a NASA Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Space Shuttle Endeavour's primary payloads were the Tranquility module and the Cupola, a robotic control station with six windows around its sides and another in the center, providing a 360-degree view around the station.Endeavour launched at 04:14 EST (09:14 UTC) on 8 February 2010and landed at 22:22 EST on 21 February 2010 on runway 15 at the Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility
STS-130 Wake Up Calls
STS-130 crew wakeup call, Flight Day 6 -- “The Ballad of Serenity,” the theme song for the TV series "Firefly," performed by Sonny Rhodes was played for Mission Specialist Bob Behnken.
CAPCOM Shannon Lucid: Good morning Endeavour. And a special good morning to you today, Bob.
Mission Specialist Bob Behnken: Well thank you, Shannon. And a special good morning back to you guys down in Houston for helping us out so much yesterday for a successful EVA 1. And I'd also just like to say that both on Endeavour and on the ISS, there is a little piece of Serenity for each of us who are fans of the Firefly series. Thanks.
(1.0 M) MP3 I think I can hear the horses hooves at the end of the Ballad of Serenity sounding in outer space, on Endeavour and the ISS. I don't care if I'm fooling myself.
