A quick heads-up about Firefox's latest update 148.0 - Toggle ON!
Firefox has introduced optional """AI""" (LLM and image-analysis) functionality. When you update to v 148.0 it will prompt you to check out the new AI Controls, and the page will look like this:
The "Block AI enhancements" option is toggled OFF by default just after updating.
You want to toggle this ON to remove AI features (counter-intuitive, but just take a moment to actually read it!)
I appreciate that they're at least giving a very easy-to-find choice about this and not burying it in settings that you wouldn't think to search through (Looking at your Windows 11).
Additionally it seems like the LLMs/analysis programs are local, they actually download to your device. So while they'd still be scraping your activity, that forms a local library and uses your machine's resources rather than dumping it to some gigantic conglomerate data-farm somewhere off-site.
Baby steps, I guess, if we're still insisting on cramming LLMs into everywhere they're not needed.
