Although his covert actions during the fateful night of their ‘ grand theft auto ‘ ( Fjord’s curious phrase ) nearly left Caduceus stranded in Nicodranas, they are useful when the Mighty Nein have returned to said city and the rest of them are wanted by the city guard. They could disguise themselves, but they decide to stay with Marion Lavorre immediately upon arrival, to keep from being connected too much with the new ship in the harbor.
Cad, on the other hand, is interested in seeing more of the city, so when Marion mentions that she has an errand she would like run, he offers to do it for her. While he is out, he decides it is time to pay Caleb back for the many gifts he has given Cad ( the pendant, the leaf stone, the book ), and scours a few, small bookstores for anything that sounds vaguely Caleb-themed. He doesn’t find anything on magic, but gathers two on history and hopes that is close enough. A herbalist also sells him four healing potions, one of which he considers to already have Caleb’s name on it.
Upon his return, he is unsurprised to hear from the others that Caleb in his room. He gives Fjord the remaining three potions, before seeking out Caleb’s room, whose door he knocks on gently. “Mister Caleb?” he asks as he turns the knob.
