- they were closer when they were younger. not like -- hanging out every day kind of shit, they were just close unlike how they are in hawkins during season two. - there are a few photos of max and billy together that billy has kept in his room. most of these are from california and at least one is from a photobooth. in one of the photos max is throwing up devil horns and billy honestly looks proud. - between moments of billy trying to look cool in front of his friends and trying to be a ‘man’ like neil wants him to be there are very chill moments between them. it’s never anything much and never ends up being anything significant but on good days billy lets max sit on his bedroom floor and listen to music with him while he gets ready to go out. - billy likes quiet shared moments with max. for example moments where he’s working on his car and she’s working on her skateboard. moments like that are some of the happiest moments in billy’s life.

Not having much else to do with her afternoon, Carol sat on a park bench watching literally anything that could provide her with entertainment. At that moment it happened to be a group of kids skateboarding. A normal, boring thing for teens to do in Hawkins on a weekend.
One kid especially caught her attention. A little redhead and the only girl in the bunch. This kid was really twice as good as all the boys and they all knew it. She kind of reminded her of herself a few years ago. Tough, feisty and not afraid of anything. Before she became more concerned with popularity and impressing the boys rather than showing off to them. Pissing them off had been so much more fun than dating them.
And in the end, it had gotten her nowhere - a couple years of hanging with the popular crowd. And when that was over - nothing. Just sitting in the middle of the park - alone - on a Friday afternoon while her ex-boyfriend and former friends were off partying and no longer including her.
As the boys sulked away looking defeated, Carol clapped her hands. "They're just jealous because they can clearly tell how much better you are than they are." The old Carol wouldn’t have wasted her time speaking to this kid. But the new Carol? Well, she was pretty damn bored and more than a little lonely. “Don’t ever let them think otherwise.”
