At a table off in some corner of the Lily of the Valley—away from the handful or so of customers here for a meal—sits a very tall and well-built man in his forties. With a laptop beside him, various papers strewn about, and a whiskey highball in hand, he continues to work diligently on the fiances he hadn’t quite kept up with given all the events that had occurred over the past two weeks here in the city of Spirale.
This is Django Foley. Or at least not the Django Foley most of you might be more familiar with. This Django is a much more quiet and humble man, one who has found a far less violent and traumatic way to live out his life and give himself that sense of fulfillment that every person with cognitive thinking desires.
He has no life mission. No grander sense of purpose or need to leave behind some kind of legacy. He is simply content in enjoying what life has to offer and providing the citizens of this fine city the best and most comforting food he can whip up in a reasonable amount of time. And occasionally do some artwork on the side.
To tell you the truth, he was kind of glad his other self had decided to go off on his own and entertain himself. As hospitable as Django was towards The Boss, he didn’t exactly feel all that comfortable with the man given his prior line of work. He can claim all he wants that he hasn’t done anything of the sort in quite some time, but the way in which The Boss says he’s more on standby than actual retirement leaves Django somewhat unsettled.
Not to mention the man’s insistence on having this verbal agreement done and over with so he can move on doesn’t help either.
Now it’s in the middle of him keeping tabs on the Lily’s supplies that Django happens to spot one of his regulars. A quick adjustment of his reading glasses is all he needs to know that a favorite of his has arrived. There’s a gleam in his eyes and a warmth to his smile as the man happily calls over to the city’s most famous medical professional.
“ My dear, Aelin! Come over here! Sit a while. What brings you over? ”
