Navy, Petty Officer Second Class
BIOGRAPHY
Rusty Collins grew up in Oklahoma, raised by his uncle after the death of his parents left him orphaned. His father, a sailor, had died in combat before Rusty was even born. Rusty and his uncle were never on very good terms. He was an awkward child, dealing with an anxiety disorder and a speech impediment as well as dyslexia made him secluded. His uncle didn’t like his low grades or any other problems that Rusty seemed to bring.
When he turned sixteen, Rusty dropped out of high school and began working towards his GED. By the end of the year, he had it, and he soon left Oklahoma to enlist in the US Navy like his father had done. At seventeen, he was accepted and began his training.
For the next year, he worked with the Navy as a recruit, learning the ins and outs of the position and training in combat. He was still awkward and painfully shy, but he was one of the best recruits in his group due to his strength and his innate skills as a leader.
For the next few years, Rusty stayed with the Navy, continuing to rise through the ranks until reaching Petty Officer Second Class. Not long after being promoted to the rank, Rusty was stationed in New Orleans, where he stayed for a year.
When the outbreak hit, the Navy officers stationed in New Orleans were some of the only people who were let in on how dangerous the situation really was. Because he was a generally friendly person, even if he was a bit awkward, Rusty was one of the people assigned to help keep the peace in the city and keep people calm. For the first few months of the outbreak, there were no problems with that job, and things seemed to be going generally smoothly.
Once word got out just how serious the outbreak really was, civilians stopped staying as calm. The military put their barricade up, and because he had been inside the city helping to control the situation, Rusty was trapped inside with the rest of the city. With everything around the city devolving into chaos, he is trying his hardest to continue his job and try to keep the peace. As a member of the military, he knows that saving civilians is his priority, and he is going to do everything he can to keep the people around him safe.
