âItâs one youâve never actually used, Itâs as good a new one.â He reached out to pat Leelockeâs knees but pulled back. âYouâll split to Lee and Locke again then. If youâre happier that way.â And if they couldnât do it own their own, well an Omega level healer, even a failure of one like he was could help with that.
He wanted to protest that it wasnât the same, what Lee had down was better somehow. But it wasnât, and they both knew it. âIâm glad you protected each other. iâm glad you had each other.â He couldnât imagine going through what they had, never mind alone.
He put his gloved hand over his cheek, blocking Leelockeâs finger. âDid what? Show you the kind of monster I really am? Iâm glad theyâre dead. They hurt you. They killed countless kids like us. And now they canât hurt anyone.â
Leelocke huffed, puffing his cheeks out before scowling. âYouâre not a monster!â he practically vibrated in his seat, tucking his kneeâs underneath himself as he leaned into Josh. âAnd youâre not gonna say it anymore.â If Warlock was banned from saying it around him, then so was Josh.Â
âDonât you get tired of being soâŠso awful to yourself?â He asked. âPunishing yourself for taking out actual monsters?âÂ
âYouâre so smart, but youâre so stupid.â Leelocke had no filter, nothing telling him that maybe Josh didnât want to hear this. âYou-â He pointed a finger at him. âAre going to be amazing. But youâre only gonna be that if you stop thinking youâre a monster.â
âYou donât know everything Iâve done!â He protested as he leaned back over the arm of the couch. âBut if you want, I wonât say it anymore.â It wouldnât be any less true, even if he didnât say it.
Josh gave Leelocke a sad smile, why shouldnât he be punished for the things he had done. âNo one else will.â
âIâm not smart.â The words came out of his mouth automatically. He wasnât, not really. Not like David had been. His eyes watched that the finger didnât get too close. âAnd Iâm not⊠Iâd just fuck things up. I always do.â
âYouâre infuriating.â He huffed finally. âEven worse, youâre going to agree with me-us.â Leelocke frowned. âJust me.â He added under his breath as he glanced at his own kneeâs.Â
Finally he gave up and leaned against him, forgetting about Joshâs need for space. The room filled with silence that seem to stretch as the minutes ticked on.Â
â...Rustyâs avoiding me.â He said, staring down at his kneeâs before poking at a loose thread. âHe was busy with classes when I-we came out of the medbay. Hasnât spoken to me since I got here.â
