My next contribution for @createforthra Day 2: Original Characters

We all know I have like a billion Ocs and we all have a general sense about who they are. So I introduce to you my Fireling Oc I created back when I was working as an after school art teacher. We saw a portrait sketch of her so here is a full body sketch.

I’ll admit that I haven’t read past vol. 1 of Power of TDC and don’t know too much about the Firelings but I wanted to share them because I was really happy with the pose and glowing effect.

Ember is a fun Fireling who is always ready to either put on a performance or spin a fantastical tale. Ember cannot sing unfortunately, if you asked her to sing you a song be prepared to cover your ears. It’s like hearing baby Mumble trying to sing his heart song in “Happy Feet.”

Idk if it’s just me but I feel like my Firelings are low key gonna look similar to my Grottans because of the eyes.

A Fireling OC concept sketch 🧡 Her name is Azara

Her look is inspired by Glasme from the Beneath comics. While I don’t like this series much at all Glasme is such a pretty character!

I like the idea of long-haired Fireling, considering their hair is you know… literally fire.

since i’m trying out a new art style, i decided to give my fireling oc Volcanafi a redesign!!! also added a tail because i love the idea of gelflings having tails; why not give firelings tails too?

Here’s my submission for @createforthra Day 2: Original Characters! I made a brief post about Azara and Raph’el (slight name change) a little bit ago, and now it’s time for their story, of course!

Beware that this is a tragic story.

I apologize for the length. I am neurodivergent, therefore I must over-explain everything.

Azara was the daughter of the seventh-generation Ember Queen of the Firelings, several trine after Chal and Saluna founded Mithra as a safe haven for exiled Gelfling. She was a proud and dedicated heir, who loved to serve her people. She was known to have a “flaming heart”, kind to all and always looking out for the people of Mithra. She took charge of many of her mother’s ceremonial practices, and was even known to have created some of her own that would still be used well into the Age of Power. Unfortunately, Azara would never wear the crown as her subjects so hoped.

As we know, the Gelfling of Mithra began to evolve and soon advanced into a society of Firelings. By the time Azara was born, there were only a handful of Gelfling left in the underground world, and even then many bore strange abilities that granted them better survival under the Inner Sun’s unforgiving heat. “Normal” Gelfling would soon die out in Mithra, something Azara took notice to.

As the Gelfling became fewer, she worried that the Fireling would soon forget their forebearers, believing that even the memorials built would not be enough to preserve the history of those who practically birthed their society. She decided it was best to find more Gelfling from the surface world and bring them to Mithra if they chose to come.

The Elders, the Ember Queen, even the few remaining Gelfling strongly advised her against venturing outside Mithra. After all, Saluna, Chal, and many after them had come to escape the prejudices of the world above. Not to mention, no Fireling had ever been to the surface, so it was a risk to even try, not knowing what would happen.

Azara insisted, and so they granted her permission to leave, but only if she would take a Gelfling along with her. She obliged, and ventured on with her lover, Raph’el.

Raph’el, also known simply as “Raph” had Dousan and Stonewood ancestry, and while he appeared to be a mostly regular Gelfling, he had a powerful immunity to heat, allowing him to dreamfast (or “firefast”) with his Fireling peers.

He was known for being on the shy side, but incredibly kind. Despite not being a Fireling, the Elders regarded him fondly, and admired his “gentle touch” to the society. He treated all of Mithra’s creatures with care, in life and death. He learned to respect and, in a way, admire the cycle of life and death from his Dousan family lineage. His teachings and knowledge earned him the position of conducting funerals and New Life ceremonies. Azara helped him create and perform many of his ceremonies, and the two founded a close bond overtime.

Raph developed feelings for Azara and soon the two began a relationship. They had been together for three trine when he accompanied her on her mission to the surface of Thra.

Only Raph would return to Mithra, grieving and horrified of what he’d witnessed. The further away from Mithra they went, the colder it got, and not even a day into their journey Azara’s flame began to dim, and she grew weak. When she finally agreed to go back two days later, it began to rain just before they reached the caves back to Mithra. Seeing how quickly the rain harmed her, Raph’el had no choice but to pick her up and run, but by the time they were inside, it was too late. He held Azara as she hardened into molten stone, and died.

After her tragic death, stepping outside of Mithra was strictly forbidden. Over the years, some Fireling would dare to venture out again, and find various ways to survive, but such instances were few and far between, as it was still agreed that the surface was too cold and wet for Firelings to survive long, even during the warmest seasons. 

Azara’s memory was kept alive by the Fireling society as they continued her rituals over the centuries. Hardly anything new was created and nothing changed in their ways of practice in order to preserve what little of her there was left in Mithra.

As for Raph’el, his fate remains unknown. Heartbroken by the loss of his love, he soon disappeared from Mithra, and was never seen again. Some say he went back to the surface, others say he drowned in the Pool of Tears weeping for Azara. 

A tragic tale, but the Firelings made peace in knowing that these lovers have since been reunited in their return to Thra, and are happier than ever to be in each other’s arms again.

OH MY GOODNESS YAY!!! I don’t have much, but here’s some info about the gelfling relationships of the group:

Vel (dousan) and Wisp (stonewood) do not really get along well. They both gawk and argue over the most stupidest things (for example, Vel eating an unripe peachberry and Wisp yelling at him for it).

Jo (grottan) and Volcanafi (fireling) are lovers! They met when Jo was having an evening walk on the surface (might make some art about them soon!!).

Eril (vapran + stonewood) and Enila (grottan + vapran) are like platonic soulmates! They both love to bond over the differences of their clans and jest with each other.

Vel and Wisp are the first gelfling to ever meet Volcanafi on the surface. They don’t seem to tolerate him at first (since he’s made of fire), and try their best to stay far away from him. Later on, though, they accept Volcanafi as a friend!

Vel and Maleeni (dousan) are a couple! Vel vows to never let anything horrible happen to his beloved partner, and Maleeni does the same. They compliment each other quite well.

Now, let’s get into some more personal info about some of these little guys!! (totally not their loved ones dying.. ;) )

Wisp and Tayn (sifa) were lovers, before the “incident” happened. Wisp and Tayn were almost inseparable, they never wanted to leave each other’s sides. They did almost everything together, and they even planned to get married eventually. But, that was before Tayn had gone missing for almost a month. Wisp would desperately look everywhere for her lover, but would never find her. But alas, there was news from Tayn’s family, whom were too frightened to tell Wisp about what they’d found out. It seemed that Tayn was extremely ill. It would cause her to go pale, and her veins would glow a purple hue. This strange “illness” was surprisingly not contagious, since Tayn explained that she would “be going off to take care of herself, alone”. Her family only found out because Tayn’s mother went out one night and recognized a withering gelfling’s clothing. The “illness” had taken Tayn’s life. Of course, Wisp and Tayn’s family were devastated knowing they could not prevent her death. Even now, Wisp cannot fathom the information, and has spiraled into a deep depression.

Volcanafi was always a joyful childling. He would always be inspired by his mother’s words and everything she’d do. He always wanted to be just like his dearest mother Kinderlire, traveling on the surface world and learning many different cultures, just like the ones Kinderlire would talk about! Kinderlire raised her son to be a lover, not a fighter. She didn’t want him to be anything like his father at all. She wanted her only childling to be safe and out of harms way, but, she could barely stay out of harms way herself. When Volcanafi became 15 trine old, his aunt, Glowen had to tell him something important. Something that she couldn’t bring herself to tell him. Something she knew Volcanafi could not comprehend nor know how to deal with it: Kinderlire is dead. Gone forever, without a trace. Glowen knew this day would come, firelings could never survive long on the surface. But, she didn’t want to crush her nephew’s spirits about going to the surface once he was old enough, and tried to tell him that he was still always able to travel like his mother. Volcanafi doesn’t like disappointing his mother, and since she was now gone, he decided it would be best to always be happy, like his mother always wanted him to be.

Goodness, that was a LOT. This is all I have thought of at the moment, thanks for wondering!!!!
