A very stylish-looking Italian hot sauce! The flavor was a little difficult to pin down and it took me a few tries to figure it out exactly, but I finally got it: it's basically a 60:40 mix of tomato and Tabasco.
It's not not-good (though it's definitely not hot), but getting used to it was very, very weird. The first bite created kind of a triangle in my head where the corners were tomato soup, Tabasco, and ketchup, and I kept trying to figure out where on the graph to plot the flavor. Very liminal experience, neither one thing nor the other nor the 'nother.
Anyway, turns out it is VERY good on grilled cheese (it balances the richness without distracting from the creaminess), egg sandwiches, and spaghetti napolitan (a Japanese pasta dish made with ketchup and butter). I wonder if I'll replace this when it's gone...
