[[ i'm not even going to let mai reply to this so I'll just say THANK YOU AND no anyone caught celebrating it is sent into the mines where we dig for beaver pelts its really tough labour ]]
"I'm sure you just adore them," she commented sarcastically, with a roll of her eyes. A lengthy sigh left her lips upon being hugged, and she stood and simply accepted it, making no movements to either return it or push him away. "I'm the best, I know. Well, I suppose this will give us something to talk about when we're both bored. Favorite parts and what not."
Jet chuckled lightly, obnoxiously swinging her back and forth and but knowing she wasn't one to hug- an he hoped the little extra annoyance he tacked along with it, was sure to distract from their previously conversation. His mind else where when she spoke, wondering how many she did end up getting him. He knew Longshot enjoyed reading- maybe he could read up and put them to go use. Finally, he let go, a small laugh escaping his lips, his hands gripping the book and bag, mumbling vaguely, "yea, yea. Of course." His grin spreading wide, "seriously Mai, thanks."
"Well, maybe you just didn't have the right books. If they managed to impress me, you know they must be good," she replied with a heavy sigh, mentally berating herself for not picking some sort of weapon, something like that. She knew he had hook swords, after all. "Well, whatever. At least I tried, hmm?"
Jet smiled, taking a step toward Mai with a small shrug, "Mai, Mai, Mai," he let out, walking closer to her, "if you like the books then they must be great," he smirked, trying to weasels his way away out of admitting his inability to read as great as others- figuring he'd at least read the kids book to Zuzu later on, maybe give the other a try. Jet head cocked to the side, standing in front of Mai, and slowly bringing his hands out, "your gifts are wonderful, I love 'em," and slowly he brought his arms around her in a hug whether she was willing to hug back or not, "you're a great best friend, ya know that?"
"You don't like reading?" she asked, raising an eyebrow, a bit disappointed. "I thought you might like it. I always have. It's something good to do when you're angry," she offered up, wondering if that would help him to like her present more. Not that she cared too much, but it was always nice to see someone genuinely enjoyed what you got them. "And there's a children's book, too. I figured you could read it to, Zuko, or King...whatever his fake name is."
"It's King," Jet snapped, pursing his lips for a moment, pressing the edge of the book to his forehead in attempts to sort out his thoughts, "I- when I'm angry I just, I dunno, fight?" Jet suggested annoyed with himself. Jet sighed before relaxing into a more calm pose, "I like the books, they're real nice, Mai. I just don't really like ready too much, ain't that great."
"I know I didn't have to get you anything, I just did, alright?" she muttered, crossing her arms over her chest, as if someone agitated, but really just a bit shy with each gift given. "Trust me, if there's anything I wanted, all I had to do was ask and I would've gotten it," she shrugged, not wanting him to feel bad for having nothing to give her in return. She had enough, more than enough, really. Mai cracked a smile, amused by Jet's ignorance to the holiday. "And yes, you open it now."
Jet nodded at her words, his uneasiness settled down by the thought that she didn't want anything nor need anything, and his worries alleviated, no longer bothering him. If Mai was anything, she was blunt, and honest, and he did trust her, she wouldn't lie, especially not over anything as trivial as gifts. His smile grew, his mind, his hands, his body tingling with anticipation as he lifted the bag up, pushing it open to look inside.
Internally, he could feel his whole demeanor falling staring into the bag... books. As much as he wanted to complain- he knew be couldn't. It was his first gift and it was obvious Mai but at least some time to it. So as painful as it was, he looked up, his smile still on his lips as he met her eyes, "it's great, Mai." He attempted to amp up the enthusiasm in his voice, but he knew she would be able to see right though him, respite knowing it he still added mindlessly, "books, I getta read somethin'. Like uhh," his hand messily reached down, lifting a one of the novels from the sack, staring down the elegant cover in hopes of deciphering the intricate font on the cover. His eyes squinted, recognizing a few of the letters but not able to understand enough to read the title. Hopelessly, he raised the book, a goofy smile on his lips as have up on his attempts, opting to coo, "like this one."
