The doctors and medics and psychologists had left, but Peeta didn't feel any more alone with the room vacated. Maybe it was the static in his brain, an off frequency radio with so much n o i s e in the background but everything was out of focus. Just out of reach.
Lost, angry, upset, fuzzy.
We'll give you something for the pain.
But there wasn't so much pain, not until he had seen her... that thing. The thing that had replaced Katniss with the yellow eyes and the hidden teeth and claws. He had wanted to shout and ask how they hadn't been able to see it? She was hiding in plain sight... but his voice had gone hoarse and he'd lost it-- his voice and the will-- to argue.
Still, he struggled against the restraints days later, thrashing on the bed. Wrists were long since raw, bruised and marked where he'd tugged and pulled but he wanted out as soon as the drugs had worn off. They might come soon... the doctors, the ones who spoke with him.
Heart pounding in his chest, he sighed and fell back on the bed staring up at the white ceiling. There had been so many white ceilings. He would kill to see the sky. To see home. To have a choice about where he was and where he could go.
