First Colours of Spring

Finally the first spots of colour have arrived in the garden. March has been unusually cold with frost nearly every night and very little rain so that nature is very much behind its schedule.

Top: Forsythia (yellow) and pasque flower (Pulsatilla) (violet)

Bottom: grape-hyacinth (Muscari) (blue), mahonia (yellow) and the first almond tree blossom (pink) only half opened but I could not not take a photo.

A Gift of First Blossoms

Between 2 of my 3 cats being sick and all the rain Nebraska has been getting the last week, I haven't had a chance to gather first blossoms this year. But everyday as I walk to work I admire the progress of the crab apple trees as they develop leaves and then blooms. This tree has deep resonance with one of the primary spirits I venerate.

Yesterday a perfect branch full of blossoms blew right into my path as I was heading home. This wonderful gift is now sitting on the window near my altar. I'll post pictures later today.
