First Break Up - January 2nd - 199 words - @wolfstarmicrofic
Remus smells Sirius’ cologne before he’s even on the 5th year landing. It’s not that he’s wearing a lot, it’s just that the full was last night and his senses are going wild. The sandalwood overwhelms his nose well before he saunters into the room. Remus wants to tell him to shower it off, but before he can make a quip Sirius flops face first onto his bed.
“Penelope broke up with me.” Sirius props his chin up on his hand. For a boy who had just had his first break up, he seems surprisingly chipper.
“Why are you holding back a smile?”
“Huh?”
“Aren’t you meant to be sad about it?”
Sirius shrugs, looking down to the duvet. “She said I fancy someone else.”
“Do you?” Remus asks, for some reason his heart is thudding against his ribs. For absolutely no reason. None at all.
“Possibly.” Sirius smiles, looking up at him with those stupidly gorgeous grey eyes.
“Possibly? Who?” He wishes he could stop asking, but here he is.
Sirius is about to open his mouth when James and Peter come bursting in about an idea for a prank.
There was a sharp knock at their door. Sirius and Remus looked at each other questioningly. Dinner in the Great Hall was over and all students were supposed to be in their respective common areas. Neither of them had an after hours appointment.
Sirius shrugged. “Come in.”
The door opened and there stood their grandson James in the doorway. He hadn’t been visiting as much this year as he had in the past, but it was to be expected as he was growing up and craved the company of his friends rather than his grandads. Tonight, though, he looked back and forth between them uncertainly.
“Hey there kiddo,” Sirius said after a moment as Remus tapped the teapot with his wand and summoned a tin of ginger newts.
“Hi,” James managed. He sounded as though he had a head cold.
“Are you alright?” Remus asked, concerned.
James tried to shrug nonchalantly, but then he stopped and shook his head.
“What’s the matter?” Sirius asked lightly. Sometimes teenagers needed a little space to decide how much to reveal and he tried to respect that.
James flopped down on the sofa between them. “Rose broke up with me.”
“Oh,” was all Sirius could manage. He and Remus exchanged a glance. “I’m very sorry.”
“Did she say why?” Remus asked, as he busied himself pouring tea.
“She said I’m not serious enough,” James pouted. “But I am. I’m plenty serious-”
“It’s your middle name,” Sirius cut in, unable to help himself. James stopped for a beat and glared at him.
“Well I am,” James said, crossing his arms and glaring at his namesake.
“I’m sorry to hear it, James, I know you liked her,” Remus said, sending a quelling look at his husband.
“I did like her.”
Remus reached over and put his arm around James' shoulder. He stiffened for a second, then melted against Remus, who held him easily. “In time…you’ll like someone else.”
“So that’s it then? You don’t even want to talk about it, we’re just over?!” Remus screamed-sobbed at the man he thought was his forever. Sure, they’d been going through a bit of a rough patch lately, but he hadn’t thought it was that bad.
“Yes,” Sirius said plainly, his voice devoid of emotion. Remus’s heart broke. He could feel it shattering in his chest. He couldn’t see a hint of the warmth that had been on Sirius’s face for the past five years they’d been together. It had been replaced by impenetrable ice and Remus couldn’t look at it any longer. Without a word, he strode past Sirius and walked into their bedroom.
His body moved, knowing what it needed to do while his mind went thankfully numb. Soon he had a bag filled with all his clothes and the few books he couldn’t leave behind and that was it, his entire life in one bag.
He took a deep breath and left their bedroom. Sirius’s bedroom and, flinging his key at Sirius’s feet, walked out without looking back.
It wasn’t until he was three streets away that the tears came. They dripped down his face in thick rivulets as he tried to figure out where he went from here. He needed to get away. Get away from everything that reminded him of Sirius.
He rubbed his sleeve roughly across his face, wiping away the tears and apparated to the tooth and claw pack’s camp, resigning himself to living like an actual werewolf for the foreseeable future.
You hadn’t been dating long and it was your first relationship, you were sixteen and it had started as a crush that had developed. You told her reluctantly and she reciprocated and the two of you had started dating. She even came to a family dinner at Rossi’s after one of the cases and the team absolutely loved her, including your dad.
“We should never have dated,” Your heart clenched. “Hell, we shouldn’t have met.”
“What?” You furrow your eyebrows, you didn’t understand, everything seemed fine yesterday.
“We’re breaking up,” You furrowed your eyebrows before she continued, “We ruined our friendship by trying this, not to mention how distant you are - it’s like you don’t even notice me. I deserve better than you. Don’t try and contact me again.” You don’t say anything as she leaves, trying your best to hold it together.
At lunch, you absentmindedly scrolled social media - you weren’t really allowed phones out, but you were in your history teacher’s room and he didn’t really care if you were on your phone - and your heart broke when you went to your DM’s and realised the chat had disappeared. She had blocked you.
The rest of the day passed slowly and you were struggling to keep a lid on your emotions, but soon enough, you were on the bus home with your headphones blaring and looking dramatically out of the window.
“Hey, (Y/N), how was school?” Your dad greeted you as you walked in.
“I don’t wanna talk about it,” You mumble, walking past him to the living room, getting ready to head up to your bedroom where you were planning on staying until the end of time. Not only had the pair of you broken up, but she didn’t even want you to be friends anymore. You had lost her from your life completely.
Aaron furrowed his eyebrows, placing the tea towel on the counter as he walked towards you, “I know you don’t want to talk about it, but if you change your mind, you can talk to me about it - about anything.”
“I know, I just-” You sniff, looking down. Aaron reached out, gently rubbing your back as tears began to drip down your face. You plopped yourself down on the couch and put your head in your hands.
“It’s alright,” Aaron mumbled, he had sat down next to you and sat down next to you as he continued to rub your back.
“She broke up with me,” You mumbled, “Said we couldn’t even be friends anymore and she deserved better,”
“I’m so sorry,” He responded, “Breakups aren’t fun,”
You shook your head, “It’s really not,” You responded. “I feel stupid for telling her, now we’re not even friends. At least before I told her we were friends,”
You look up, hearing soft footsteps, “(N/N)?” Jack asked, furrowing his little eyebrows, “Wha’s da matter?” He padded up to you, crawling up and into your lap.
“Well, you know Jessie?” When Jack nods, you continue, “We’re not together anymore,”
Jack looked at you, studying you for a minute, he lightly patted your cheek, “‘T’s okay,” He replied, “You’ll be ‘kay,”
You give him a small smile, “Yeah, I think I will be,” You mumble, “How about we watch a movie?” You ask, looking at both your dad and brother.
Being single for the first time since you became an adult is crazy. Wym I don’t have to check in with someone every half an hour and tell them exactly what I’m doing?
