Read-A-Thon: Questionnaire | Part 1
01. Where will you be sharing your bookish updates for the Treesofreverie June Read-A-Thon?
On this blog (bookpixiee) and my twitter - @stateofgrace55
02. How did you start book blogging? What got you interested in starting, were there particular blogs that influenced or encouraged your decision? (If you don't have a book blog, are you interested in starting one?)
My elder brother had a blog, and he helped me set mine up. At first this was a multifandom/ random posts blog, but slowly it evolved into what it is now, books and book fandoms with an occasional touch of something else. :)
03. What's your ultimate book-inspired holiday? What would you do and would you take anyone with you? Has a particular book or author inspired this?
1) A quiet holiday by the seaside where all I do is read and write.2) Renting an apartment in New York and living there for a month, working in a bookshop or as a journalist.3) Hogwarts. I won't take anyone with me to 1 and 2 but to Hogwarts, my brother or any of my HP loving friends.
04. Which five authors (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party and why? Who do you think would get along and what would you talk about?
This is hard. Michael Morpurgo, love his books and writing. He influenced me a lot as a 4th/5th/6th grader. Christopher Paolini, because he was a young writer and successful and because the world of the Inheritance books is quite well thought out. John Green, because he's smart and I'm pretty sure talking to him will be very cool. Rainbow Rowell, because I think she writes really well and I want to know her complete process of getting to the final draft and because Fangirl is a NaNo novel, which really intrigues me. Lastly, Suzanne Collins. I love THG so much i honestly just want to say hi to the person who made it. THG opened up so many new genres for me.
05. What were the last three books you recommended to someone and why did you choose these particular books to recommend? If your last recommendations were a large list shared all at once, then pick three books.
Half Bad ,Legend Trilogy and the Noughts and Crosses to my friend, because i thought he would enjoy them. I'm not sure if these were my last recommendations, but these are the ones I remember.
06. Describe your perfect reading experience. Paperback, Hardback or eBook? Genre? Where are you reading? Alone or in company? Indoors or outside? Season? Weather? What time of day? Snacks?
Paperback, YA/MG- Fantasy/Dystopia/Contemporary. Something easy to get through, but something which actually challenges me to keep reading. Alone. Indoors on a bed, with the AC on( or blanket in winter) with soft music playing. If outdoors, under a tree, music playing, with a nice breeze to top it off. Night/ morning/ late evening. Ice cream or chocolate. a bag of chips work too.
07. Everyone's entitled to an opinion. What are your thoughts on negative comments and reviews on books? Does it make a difference for you if they involve any constructive criticism or feedback?
I think there's a difference between trashing something and respectfully giving your opinion, while not sugarcoating it too much. This goes for pretty much anything, not only books. But if someone doesn't like something, they should say so, without being a jerk.
08. What would your ultimate dream book collection include? What would it look like and how would you arrange your books?
So it would be like this maze of dark wood bookshelves, with beanbags and cushy armchairs randomly placed. In the middle would be my bed :3 Books will be arranged in 5 sections- Favourites, Kid Books, I Cried, This Was Nice and Okay. Each section will be further divided by genre and authors. That's all I've thought about till now!
09. What are your biggest book-related pet peeves? Why do these things bother you more than others?
Books being different sizes, when they’re part of a series. They mess up my pretty bookshelves. Also different covers/ random stickers in a series.
Price tag stickers on the back page snippet. Like how can I buy this book if your sticker has hidden two words, which might be important?!??
That's all I can think of right now. I might add more later.
10. What are some of your favourite things about people who read books? These may be generalisations or relate to a specific person.
I love hearing another persons opinion on a book I loved or hated. Everyone has a different view and listening to someone talk about a book I've read makes me see it from a different perspective.
Book insults. I have this friend, who insults someone using a term in a book and then glances at me and smiles. It's like having secret words almost.
The passion people talk with is amazing. my friends tell me I do the same, but watching someone else get lost in what they're saying is surreal.
I love how books connect people. One book has a million fans and ten million opinions. It's part of the reason I love wearing/seeing people wear fandom clothes. Whenever I see someone wearing something from a book I like, I feel closer to the world for a second or so, and I like imagining that when I wear fandom clothes, someone might be feeling the same thing.
So that's it for now. I might edit this post later though. Happy reading and happy blogging!
Random side note - my birthdays on 1st july. :3
