I do like that the team is trying to include Landon but also get why Landon would rather stay in.

What grief? What happened? Why would his parents have resentment towards him? I don't like missing pieces of the puzzle, even if I have a feeling those pieces are going to make me ugly cry.

Oh fuck this book for making me cry. But ugh, I am so glad that Landon and his parents are having this conversation and admitting how they all feel and wanting to do better going forward. Landon really needed to know he wasn't the only one drowning in that guilt.

Love the fact that the first pro game Landon's parents get to see in person is a fucking shut out. Hell. Fucking. YES.

Casey is way too drunk for this and I actually feel so bad for Landon right now. Sad boyfriend got too drunk and lost what little filter he had, a nightmare in the making.

I love that Landon's parents were immediately like "yes, good, we like Casey" even before Landon could get to the dating Casey part of his coming out lmfaoooo.

Damn, I didn't wanna see Nisk getting hurt like that. Fucking hell. I mean, cool for Casey and Landon, Landon'll probably get pulled back up, but fucking hell.

I love Morin's pep talk to Landon. He really does nee to take that damn shot and run with it.

Casey trying to learn how to cook and clean so it would still feel like Landon was home has me feeling all kinds of sappy, jfc.

Ending on Casey proposing at the Christmas party, 1 year after their first kiss, was a really sweet way to bring things full circle.

Time to Shine Review

Rating: 4.5/5

First of all, I love that this book actually had more details on the hockey because, as previously stated, I am way too invested in the hockey aspect. Give me all of the game details, please and thank you.

I will admit, I kind of struggled at the beginning of this one but not because of the story or the writing. No, I struggled with the names because I have a cousin named Casey (who played hockey when we were kids) and his oldest son is named Landon. Talk about a very bad name coincidence.

Still, I am a goddamn professional and I was able to get past the unfortunate for me name combo and I am so glad I did.

Time to Shine is, honestly, a very cute read. Even if it did make me ungodly emotional several times. It handles grief and guilt very well and the challenges Casey and Landon face are, thankfully, fairly small in the grand scheme of things. It's also a very hopeful book, showcasing a possible future where queer pro hockey players just exist and it's not a big deal. No one is being set up be the first one out or the spokesperson or anything of the sort and, truth be told, sometimes I just need that kind of simple comfort in a book.

The ending is also so sweet and sappy and cute. If you need an easy read with a happy ending, this is definitely a good one to pick up.

Trick Shot Review

Okay, so, I probably should not be reading hockey romance books because, quite honestly, I get way too involved in the actual hockey aspects of the book. Which is not the focus at all.

That being said, I did appreciate that this one at least understood how many goals are actually scored in the average hockey game so it didn't piss me off.

What did, however, piss me off is the fact that there is no pop punk/emo band out there giving me hockey related songs in the style of Fall Out Boy. I feel like I am being cheated by real life here.

Now, it's not secret that I am a sucker for idiots to lovers and boy does this one deliver. I love Nick, I do, but that boy is a fucking idiot. A sweet idiot, but still an idiot. Major props to Matt for wanting to be with that disaster.

I genuinely liked the characters, especially the supporting ones (Marco and Linds, y'all are real ones for rel) and I love how supportive the overall book is. I genuinely wish we could see some real changes in hockey like this.

It's a cute, fun, and relatively easy read with no major traumas and the biggest hurdles are definitely miscommunication and fear, but it does have a happy ending. A disgustingly sweet and sappy happy ending, if I might add.

There is some sexual content, but it is all very tame and on the mild end, so definitely a good pallet cleanser if you tend to read more smut heavy things or, if you're like me, and generally read a lot more horror.
