Toothless!

The process is under the break!

Made this in my dorm room last November with crayola air dry clay and an attitude of, “I’ve never done this before, but how hard could it be?”

I wouldn’t say it was difficult, but it was definitely a learning experience! I learned that crayola air dry clay is really brittle and also, the sculpture shouldn’t be solidly made of clay.

The body and legs kept cracking, and I ended up patching them with acrylic paint that halfway worked lol

And I didn’t know another way I could make the wings, so what I did was hot glue fabric to the wing fingers, soak the fabric with water, and then apply the clay on top so the texture was more uniform.

Then I did the details and the paint.

I want to make another Toothless once school is over. Had to give this one away pretty much as soon as I finished for a Secret Santa.

But yeah! That’s how I made my first sculpture!

Remaking this blog just to follow ceramicists that I really like for inspo and potentially post stuff I’ve made on here so that I have some online platform to show people. But just to have something to show for this new version of the blog that’s sort of an art blog, enjoy this little fellow birthed from my hands:

So I tested out polymer clay for the first time. I made bulbasaur because I always make bulbasaur when testing out a new medium lol.

He turned out bad but that's fine because he looks cute. Also I've never used this stuff before so obviously it's not gonna look great.

It was fun to play with though I might use it now and then for stuff

Next Project

I'm making a stingray in ceramics now. I'm not in any other art classes, though, so I'll only be able to update on ceramics.

Hand update

And now for the backstory of the tiny hand

Basically I’m just insecure about my hands and weird fingers and bones that kinda stick out instead of being thin straight fingers like my sister’s, so I made a tiny hand like my hand to fidget with when I’m bored and I plan to make more. This is my first sculpture so I hope it turns out nice!
