Strains and Sprains Remember the word "RICE" for general treatment. 1. REST - take stress off injured area and avoid use as much as possible. 2. ICE - apply cold compress to injured area for up to 20 minutes. Repeat icing at least four times a day. 3. COMPRESSION - wrap area with elastic bandage. 4.
