Acquaintance
A firefly in pitch darkness
That's who you are
A temporary solace from the void
While waiting for the star
Fret not, you've fascinated me
Even while making me yearn
For the hope of that pristine white light
I thought I could never earn.
Then you made me feel whole
When I'm still half my way
In my journey towards the light
Towards an even brighter day
I then came to fancy the firefly more
I no longer seek the gleam of tomorrow
Now I forgo that blurring, dulling reality
While getting to know more of this cave of sorrow
The hopeful prospects of the bright light
Slowly gloomed as the days had gone by
I stick instead to what is seen and heard;
To what is here and to what will stand by
Hurry morning; shed your light upon me
Deign me even a glimpse of your shadow
So I can now bid goodbye to the firefly
Who I just happened to come to know.
