Ape. '2001: A Space Odyssey' / Dawn of man To me this scene is a very simple but fantastic representation of how memetic evolution has started throughout our genetic evolution from primates to homo sapiens: when a bone for example is no longer a mere useless bone but it gets reasoned out and becomes a tool to hunt. Memetic evolution gave us tremendous developments which lead to astonishing things such as music, art, infrastructures and science, just to mention a few and also plenty of horrors like wars fought because of beliefs and ideologies, nationalism, fanaticism and insanity of all kind. Genetic evolution is known as the "first replicator point", memetic evolution is the second one but what we are entering right now is the "third replicator point", meaning the impact with technological memetic evolution, transhumanism and evolution of artificial intelligence and probably artificial consciousness too quite soon. The third replicator point can be a doorway to imaginably beneficial progresses for mankind, or, since it is extremely dangerous, to the end of the species as we know it. It's really up to us to refine our thinking skills and to do it as soon as possible, starting from the field of education and personal development. As well it's really up to us take these things seriously. _________________________________________ By Diego F.
