I just completed the first six months of my professional career. There is a lot that I learned in this time, not only about my job, but also about life in the corporate world. I am sharing my learning of those first six months here.
One of the most important things to understand is that choosing the right organisation matters a lot. Any organization, essentially, is only but a set of ideas, a set of principles. If your own principles are in constant dissonance with your organisation’s principles then dissatisfaction would be the only natural response. The only option then is that either you align your principles with your organisation or you find another one to which your principles more closely align. It also extends to the organisation’s culture, which by virtue of its very nature would have a great deal of impact on your personal life. So if you can properly understand and interweave into the fabric of your organisation’s culture, half your problems would be solved at that instant... (Read More)
No turning back
I got married 6 months ago.
For most people, the first 6 months are about moving in together and adjusting to married life. Fighting over the remote, politely forcing down each other's cooking, devising midnight plans to steal the duvet...
However Krishna and I have never had a what you might call a 'normal' relationship so it will come as no surprise that our first 6 months were also a little unconventional. For the past 6 months, I have been at home in the UK looking after Mummy Patel while she's been poorly; I guess that means TECHINCALLY I still haven't lived with my husband yet...
altogether now....."aaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww"
Don't get me wrong, it's not that I haven't enjoyed picking up the phone and hearing "Ohhh..Shreena? Shouldn't you be in Brussels?"
Or answering the door to "Oh I thought you'd left...Where's Krishna?"
Or being asked "Aren't you supposed to be married already"?
Yes unannounced visitor, please, come into my house and state the bloody obvious..no no I don't mind at ALL, please continue to shake your head at me like I'm an abandoned puppy at the shelter...Who DOESN'T love pity in the morning?
Life's not that bad...I promise...
So as much as I've loved hanging out with the ma and gran it's about time that I finally up sticks and live with the husband...besides, I think I promised the priest something along those lines during the ceremony...I digress....
Let it be known that I, Shreena Patel -kinda Punwasi, am finally moving to Brussels!
Non exchangable - non refundable...
Me, the Texan and 85m2...Oh god what have I done!!!
Until the next niggle...
Shreena
