Puttan Pop/Puttanpop (putˈta.n pop), translated literally to English as “Whore Pop”: unofficial music genre predominantly dictated by female singers with eccentric personalities and outrageous looks. For a song to be considered part of the genre, it must be short, catchy, and danceable. Although the term came to be in 2009 on a Britney Spears forum, it’s possible to apply it to many Italian singers who knew their fortune in the 1970s and 1980s.
