Saturday, June 12, 1982—rested most of the day. Sylvia helped with a spaghetti party to raise money for the Glennallen hospital. Bob Schmidt asked me to go to Chet’s fish wheel tonight. Bob and he are good friends and Bob likes to get salmon out of the fish wheel. Good of him to invite us along.

Fish wheel in action
Ben and I have learned over the last few days how important the work at Baird Canyon is. Without the fish wheel, the work here would be done completely different. One of the reasons the wheel is used is the low environmental impact and limited handling of the fish. Salmon are very rarely harmed during their journey through the fish wheel.
We have talked a lot about how this wheel works, now you can see for yourself.
