Angst/Horror Prompts
She froze, fingers tangled against her white locks. She wouldn’t be surprised if her face matched it in colour. Unbidden, her touch trailed across the raised flesh, line after line, pinpricks and patches tucked away and layered over each other.
Out of sight...
“There’s so many…”
“...I know.” She swallowed hard, and hated the way her hands trembled. Zed’s fingers curled around hers, tugging away from the scars and the fuzz creeping in around the edge of her vision, pulling her into his arms and to his chest.
“Addison...I…”
“...they just wanted me to be better. Make- make it all go away.” She whispered. “I...I couldn’t stop it.” Her eyes closed. “I couldn’t.”
“Addy…” Zed’s voice was thick, and she closed her eyes, feeling his fingers creep across towards them, down the back of her neck and across her skin. “I…”
She fought against her flinch as his palm laid over her ruined skin. “I’m sorry.”
He didn’t say anything, her chest convulsing until he wrapped her up closer still, pressing a kiss to her white hair, palms stretched over her bared back. “You are the most beautiful person I’ve ever known.” She could feel the first tear snake down across her cheek. “They were wrong, they were so, so wrong, Addy. You- You’re already- you’re already perfect.”
“Zed…”
“I mean it.” He left no room for argument, tugging her in so she could feel his heart under her palm. “I’m so proud to be with you.” He kept going, and she clung to him as the storm raged around her. “Whatever came before, it’s nothing. You are incredible, Addy.” Another kiss pressed to her head. Her whole frame trembled, and she could feel her back burn and itch. His voice was soft in her ear, anchoring her against the waves in her mind.
“We just want to help you sweetheart.”
“You’re strong.”
“No need to be scared, just a sharp scratch-”
“And good.”
“She’s a freak, Dale. The sooner we fix it the better.”
“And you are the bravest, most gorgeous person I’ve ever and will ever know.”
“She’s...she’s just wrong.”
“She’s putting everything at risk. Just- can’t you make it go away?”
“It’s not natural. But this ought to help.”
“Don’t worry, it’s all for the best.”
“We’ll make it all better soon. Now let’s get this done…”
“Gar gargiza, Addy.” Her fingers clenched down against his shirt, as his wove through her hair. There was silence. Another tear dripped down her chin, and Zed shuddered under her touch, embrace closing in around her, warm and protective from the rain and the cold in her head.
"I give you my Netflix password as a true statement of our love. Plus it's cheaper than a ring."
Stupid Intimacy/Shipping Sentence Starters
“Remind me why we do this again?”
“Because otherwise we’d be dragged on group dates with The Saps and the Bigger Saps.” Willa tossed her popcorn up into the air before catching it. “Well?”
Eliza hummed, tossing and catching her own before replying. “Solid 8. Not a high enough throw for a 10. But your form’s getting good.” Her jaw dropped as more popcorn scattered over the bridge of her nose. “Well now you’re not getting my blankets.”
“That’s just cruel.”
“So’s wasting precious popcorn.” Eliza tugged the bowl back. “Now sit down or we won’t have an excuse to kick Wyatt out anymore.”
Willa grumbled until another kernel bounced off her nose and she snuggled back into the pillow mountain stacked behind them. They both quietened down, Eliza’s laptop screen lit up as the homemade projector lit up the wall at the foot of the bed. Only the sound of breathing was left, the two curled up together as they quietly scrolled through film options.
“Thank god you bothered to get Netflix.” Willa mumbled around a yawn, both settling on some original property they’d never heard of and looked to be gloriously bad. “I would not survive without it.”
“Well, I’d be a poor tech nut without it.” Eliza shrugged, letting the opening credits wash over her. “Besides, no one survives college without Netflix. Or Amazon, at least.” She rolled her neck, cracking it seconds before Willa curled backwards, spine cracking several times.
“Isn’t that redundant for you?” Willa’s words hung for a second until she got a punch to the shoulder. “Relax,” she snagged another handful of popcorn. “I’m there with you.” she crunched down on a slightly burnt kernel. “None of that for me.”
Eliza blinked, stilted dialogue filling the air for a while. “Oh yeah, I forgot.” Neither spoke, instead letting the movie do it for them. Willa shuffled away a little until Eliza grunted, rolling sideways and half off her tiny bed, almost falling except for her girlfriend’s hand snatching the back of her shirt.
Eliza continued to dig around before pulling a battered notepad out. Scribbling something in it, she tossed it into Willa’s lap.
“Here.” Willa flipped the paper over. “It’s the password.” She sniffed. “Free pass to surviving college.”
“Seriously?” Willa blinked in surprise, the paper clutched to her chest.
Eliza just flopped back against her shoulder. “Sure. I mean, how would Zed put it?” her hand waved dramatically around. “I give you my Netflix password as a true statement of our love. And my eternal devotion, the everlasting truth of our unity and a symbol that you bring true meaning to entertainment and-” She snorted. “Sorry, couldn’t keep it up.” Willa was still staring at the paper. “...you okay? Babe?”
“Fine. Just…” Willa trailed off. “Don’t usually get...gifts. Not from...outsiders.” She said, blinking hard until she coughed. “So, true love?” She smirked. “Does that mean I have to get the Amazon then?”
Eliza didn’t say anything for a while, staring up at her girlfriend until her face broke into a mirrored expression. “Sure, why not. Consider it an engagement gift.”
“Oh is that what we’re doing?”
“Please, Netflix is more binding than any church contract. Plus,” Eliza winked and turned up the volume. “It’s cheaper than a ring.”
Willa’s smirk widened and they settled in, completely lost as to what was happening in the movie, but as they settled the popcorn bowl between them, Eliza didn’t miss Willa carefully folded up the note, sliding it into the inner pocket of her jacket, right above her heart.
“I don’t hold people close. It makes it easier for them to hurt you.”
Here we go.
Dialogue Prompts
Badboy!Zed and Loner!Addison
“Tell me.” He rolled over, watching as she barely glanced up from her book, eyebrow quirking up briefly before she dismissed him once again. Zed propped his chin on his hands. “Seriously. Tell me.”
“Why?” Addison looked up, pushing her hair back off her face.
“Because,” He shrugged. “Everyone else, I get. The squads, the nerds,” he paused to wink at her. “The delinquents.”
“Big surprise there…”
“But you…” he stared until she ducked behind her book. “You I don’t get.” He pulled it away from her until she returned to meet his gaze.
“I...I don’t have anything to say.” She pulled her book back to her chest. “I don’t need a reason anyway.”
“But you have one.” He tipped his head back and forth, waiting as she pushed her hair off her face. “Come on. Tell me.” Zed scooted closer. “What’s your deal?” A muscle jumped in her jaw as she flicked over a page. “You know I’m just gonna keep asking…”
Addison snapped the heavy volume closed, the thud bringing a wince from Zed. “Why do you care so much?” She asked, squinting. “What do you get out of this?”
“Because…” he waved a hand. “You’re smart, and pretty, and should be hanging with all the cheerleaders and the preps and the goody two shoes. But you’re here.” He sat up, sidling up beside her. “And just...why?”
“...” Her mouth opened and closed soundlessly.
Only the sounds of the people milling about on the field below filled the air. Slowly, watching her face despite the carved marble of her expression. “You don’t actually have to tell me.” He murmured. Addison glanced over. He tried another wink. “I’m nosy, but I’m not an asshole. Not completely anyway.” She giggled as he nudged her shoulder. “Gotta break the stereotype somehow.”
“I…” she laughed a little, then went back to twisting her hands, the corner of her mouth tight. “I just…” He’d never noticed how blue her eyes were until she looked him in the eye. “I don’t get why you care.”
“...” He could lie. It was right there; just idle curiosity. It would be so easy to tell her, to admit he was just a not-so-great guy who didn’t like being told no. The words itched at the tip of his tongue.
So easy...
“Because you’re always here. Alone.” He whispered. “And...I- I don’t understand why you’d choose that.” He twisted his hands together. “I don’t know why you’d want to be so alone.”
Addison didn’t say anything to that. Instead, Zed began to shuffle back, the sun above too hot against his leather jacket, her ice blue eyes burning all his secrets out from the inside. It was a belated realisation he was still resting his hand on her knee, until she shifted out from beneath him, hugging her book to her chest.
“I don’t hold people close.” She whispered. “It’s just who I am.” Her white hair obscured his vision of her face. “Nothing special about it.”
“But…” he shook his head. “Why?” Her hair fluttered in the breeze and Addison shivered. “Don’t you- don’t you miss people? Friends?”
“No.” More hair fell across her face. “They...getting close, it just…” She stopped, and her knuckles were white against the dark leather bindings she clutched. “It makes it easier for them to hurt you.”
Zed barely caught her final whisper, but before he could even think about her words, the bell rang. In less than a second, Addison jumped up, dragging her oversized sweater down and rushing away, heavy book still in hand. He stared after, her whisper dancing around his head in time to the wind barely ruffling his hair.
The sun beat overhead, the bell ringing in his ears long after it faded to nothing. Zed rubbed up and down his arms, staring across the empty field, white painted lines and artificial green stretching out before the pale wooden seats. His leather felt so stifling, and all he could do was look to the white wood at his side, fingers barely trailing across the surface.
A hand on his shoulder forced him to jolt back, fists clenched until familiar faces registered, Eliza and Bonzo standing waiting, smiles already in place. Zed’s smile fell into place, relaxing as they slid down beside him. He couldn’t help but watch as Eliza shucked off her jacket, Bonzo already rummaging in his bag even while offering Zed a wide grin. His own felt stuck on his face, cracked plastic and heart twitching out of time.
Everything faded and snapped back into focus, Eliza slouching next to him as his vision shifted in and out. “You know, when you decide to bunk off, it’s usually kosher to tell the rest of us, so we don’t think you’re dead in a ditch or something.” She paused, leaning back to take in the sunshine. “You had Bonz’ all kinds of freaked out.”
“Sorry.” Zed said, helpless to ignore a wisp of white as it disappeared through a door. “Spur of the moment thing.”
“Zor Zogren.” No problem. “Lizka vaz zug murzi zan gra zagrava.” Liza was more worried than me anyway. Bonzo shrugged off the slap to the chest, laughing and sprawling over the bleachers as he pulled out his sketchbook and a pencil.
“What had you out here though?” Eliza looked around. “I didn’t think anyone used these damn things. Not like there’s any game worth watching around here. Besides,.” She said, then stopped, leaning back and craning her head to see behind them. “It’s like...beyond empty.”
“Yeah…” the wood felt so cold under his palms. “Guess it’s just...” He swallowed, glancing over to his friends, both already looking back at him.
