he's been living with gai since a few weeks now, and never has he been THIS happy. curious eyes inspected his new look from every angle, the jumpsuit was his favorite gift, it made him look a bit more like his papa. (and it was so much more comfortable than his old clothing). his eyes lit up like tiny stars. ❛ can i have a bowlcut too? can i~? ❜
it’s kind of ridiculous, but gai had been thoroughly prepared for lee to accept the gift and decide not to wear it. not because he wouldn’t appreciate the gift, and not even because he wouldn’t like it, but simply because of how lee still struggles with accepting the things gai gives him. like if he accepts any of the clothes or toys or books gai gives him, someone will come along and take them. they’ve been working on it, even though it’s only been a few weeks, and he’s pleasantly surprised when lee’s eyes light up, a practical buzz beneath his skin as he shakes out the folded fabric to hold the jumpsuit up. before gai can get a word in edgewise, lee is kicking out of his clothes and pulling the spandex across his skin.
the legwarmers aren’t quite ready yet, genma’s sister (blessedly) helping him in that department, but gai had admittedly been far too excited to wait for their completion. it was clearly the right decision, because not only does lee look far too adorable in the matching outfit, he looks happy. comfortable in his skin, and gai has to bite down hard on the inside of his lower lip to keep himself from crying uncontrollably. god, how is it possible to hold so much love for one single person? gai wonders if this is how his father felt, watching him try on his first jumpsuit. he hopes so.
lee’s inquiry shocks gai from his reverie, brows furrowing a bit as he watches lee watch himself in the mirror. humming in consideration, he takes a few steps forward, letting a hand rest gently on lee’s head, petting through the messy, days-old braid falling down his spine. “are you sure you want to get rid of your hair?” gai asks, well aware that it will grow back, and while he doesn’t want to make lee unnecessarily attached to his hair, he’ll always do his best to make sure that lee is absolutely certain before making any decisions.
even if the idea of his son wanting to look like him clenches something harsh but sweet in his chest.
“if that’s what you want, we can go to mrs. haruno tomorrow! i’m sure she’d be delighted to cut your hair for you. for now, why don’t we go out and make sure the suit’s a right fit for physical activity?”
i see you in the dark, at the dawn of something new // @fistsbled.
