I have seen this a million times with the words Rise but nobody seems to remember (or at least talk about) the brilliant man that started all this. The man that fell in love with a red, the man that made Sevro into what he is, the man that chose Darrow and shaped him, the man who rose against his own color, the man that was much more than the eyes saw. Crude, foul mouthed he was honorable and good person. Fitchner au Barca everybody. Remember him.
Red Rising theory
(Golden Son spoilers abound, but not Morning Star so far as I can think)
Fitchner’s metabolizers have the opposite effect usually assumed and are to MAINTAIN his belly paunch
Think about it
Ares is fully capable of slaughtering entire units of lurchers. Even though his appointment as Rage Knight was largely political, he still kicked everyone’s ass in the dueling. He’s probably one of the bigger badasses in the series, up there with Darrow, Cassius and maybe even Ragnar and Aja since we never directly see him in action. He’s certainly in peak physical condition and, while a paunch is still possible like that, it’s a lot less likely
But even with all of this, his greatest tool is secrecy
Since he doesn’t fit the mold that Golds try to fit into, since he isn’t the quintessential Iron Gold, since he has a belly paunch, The Society underestimates him Darrow said it holds him back? Hell no, it’s what gives him his power.
He’s frequently referred to as a bronzie. His appearance, especially the paunch, is why Nero doesn’t respect him. It’s probably why the Sovereign thinks she can control him. That paunch is an essential part of his cover and the best representation of it.
Attention, all Howlers! We all know there is gonna be a movie soon, but since it's bloodydamn fun to speculate, I have chosen some lucky actors for these ama...

Confirmed: More Red Rising: Sons Of Ares Comics Are Coming
More #SonsofAres comics on the way! #RedRising
Among the rumblings out of Comic-Con earlier this month was a mention from Pierce Brown that we would be seeing a followup to the Sons of Ares comic series. But apart from a vague but intriguing Tweetmentioning Pierce’s response to a question at one of the panels he attended at the San Diego event, I hadn’t seen any official confirmation on the matter beyond that until today. According to Pierce…

Today apperently is Fitchner appreciation day. He needs more appeciation. I am just playing around and trying to make something that looks decent. Here I also just could not pass by this awesome couple... Fitchner\ Bryn.... @jasmin-au-bellona I know your skills surpass mine but you did inspire me.

Revisiting Golden Son: The Best And Most Heartbreaking Moments
I still consider Golden Son to be the best book in the Red Rising series. Strangely, I almost feel bad saying that, as it sounds like I’m saying the series peaked with Book 2. It didn’t and that’s not what I’m saying. (more…)
